Owls in leading pack for Koumas

Wednesday are amongst the front-runners to sign experienced midfielder Jason Koumas, who is a free agent following his release from Wigan Athletic.

The 31-year-old former Wales international has been linked with a move throughout the close season but talkSPORT are now reporting that Wednesday and Ipswich Town are leading the chase for his signature.

Koumas will be in-demand this summer but it's unlikely he'll be offered the chance to continue at a club in the Barclays Premier League.

The talented midfielder spent last season on-loan with Cardiff City and the npower Championship, or League 1, is his most likely destination.

And although Wednesday don't have Championship status, they do have the advantage of having Gary Megson, the man who managed Koumas at West Brom, in charge.

Koumas is likely to demand relatively high wages, especially for League 1, but Owls chairman Milan Mandaric will be prepared to foot the bill to help Wednesday achieve promotion next season.

Koumas is pretty much a confirmed target dezzy although I suppose talksport have just nicked the news/rumour from elsewhere. Would be excellent at this level

if any championship club are sniffing around, like ipswich, then our interest will be toast. it is only a slim possibility he'd come to us but with respectable clubs in a higher league looking at him too, that slim possibility is wiped out altogether in my opinion.

... but on side note, I'd be delighted if he joined us and I was proven wrong. I think he'd make a solid captain too.

Look at the Wiganer web site to see what they think of him. Just the same as what we think of Potter.
The Fantham
the fantham...the wigan fans are saying that about him when he was playing in the prem, in league 1 i am sure he would be alot better and when mandaric said ages ago that there would be one big signing im beggining to think this is probably it
SGoodwin94
plus potter has gone and his wages were one of the highest in the squad which has probably given us financial room for koumas wages
SGoodwin94
would be quality at this level and now potter has gone we are a little lightweight there must be a midfield signing imminent what happened wit semedo ?
retfordowl1867
koumas is a solid championship player so he should have league 1 at his mercy.would be a quality signing doubt it will happen though.

The of nine new signings is not going well, still a way to go but the sooner the better to let them gel!
