Owls close in on double signing

Vital Wednesday understands the Owls are closing in on the signings of Julian Bennett and Lloyd Dyer.

The duo have been linked with a summer move to Hillsborough for a number of weeks and the Owls could confirm the captures within the next 24 hours.

Bennett, a left-back, is out-of-contract with Nottingham Forest and would bolster the Owls' defensive lines. Gary Megson, the Wednesday manager, bought Bennett during his days as boss at the City Ground and knows Bennett well.

Dyer, a winger, was influential in Leicester City's promotion from League 1 and also played regularly at Championship level last term. Wednesday chairman Milan Mandaric is thought to have played a major part in speaking to his old club to ask about the former MK Dons man.

A fee would need to be paid for the latter, which is expected to be undisclosed, while Bennett would arrive on a free transfer from the City Ground.

The signings would take Megson's summer arrivals to four as he looks to build a squad capable of pushing for promotion next season.

Am I right in thinking both have pace and are natural left footers on the right side of 30? Sounds like what we need on that side of the pitch. Hope they sign

Apparently we are still in for Mellor and Semedo. Lets hope we can get one signed soon and others will follow. On another note I think it would be good to see youngsters like Liam Palmer and Vadaine Oliver get more game time (or some in Vadaine's case). Surely our academy is at least worthy of some league 1 players else it was well short of the standard in the championship

Agree Devon_Owl, Palmer has always done well when he's played and you dont get capped at U21 level (albeit Scotland) if you dont have something about you? There's even cases for players like Cecil to have a punt when a games in control for last 10-15mins just to blood them so to speak! This would in turn give them confidence in academy matches which in turn gives them confidence to play firsts if called upon! Confidence breeds confidence and all that!
Owls That!
