Wednesday confirm Bennett capture

Wednesday have this morning confirmed the signing of out-of-contract Nottingham Forest defender Julian Bennett.

As revealed on Vital Wednesday earlier, Bennett becomes the Owls' third signing of the summer after David Prutton and Rob Jones and has penned a two-year contract at Hillsborough.

The 26-year-old left-back is no stranger to Owls boss Gary Megson, who signed Bennett while he was manager at the City Ground.

Bennett told the official SWFC site: 'It's fantastic to be here and I am looking forward to the challenge.

'When a club like Sheffield Wednesday shows interest in you, it doesn't take too much thinking about.'

He came through the Forest Academy before moving across the Midlands for a spell with the Saddlers before returning to help Forest to promotion from League 1 and picking up the club's player of the season award along the way.

Bennett comes in to replace left-back Tommy Spurr, who left for Doncaster Rovers.

Good signing! I've seen him play a few times for Forest and if he stays fit he'll become a fans favourite!

Boosh - does he have a problem with fitness? don't know much about him really - only that he's quite highly rated.

excellent, nice to see someone arriving.

gd signing now we have a new left back we can now move reynolds on

I want rid of Dan Jones before Reynolds. Both can go. Jones was shocking last year terrible left back. Got Buxton and Bennett now.

Carbone's Padawan, he had a serious injury a couple of years ago that kept him out for 18 months. He was a firm favourite with the Forest fans before that but a lot happens in 18 months. He went on loan to Palace last term and started to find his feet again. Hopefully a good pre-season and he will head and shoulders above anything we've had at left back for a long time. He's actually a left back first and foremost which cannot be said for Spurr and Jones!

Hopefully some more signings today as the boys go away on pre-season training tomorrow. Dyer and Semedo would be great and then we need a couple of strikers. Does Megson really want Clinton Morrison? I am sure he might free up some decent wages

I agree with Jamesc1903 Dan Jones is not good enough to be a payed professional.Ameture league standard.

Sorry 1905 not 1903 !

Great news. I'd been getting a bit down with the lack of movement on signings, and Bennett has been one that I've been looking forward to!

cracking signing -bring on the rest

This is what we need, some players with pedigree that might actually perform consistently and be dependable. Had enough of potential that never quite lives up to it before we just move them on. That was Irvines way and now we are fast shipping out his players. I guess we just have to be patient and hope that quality counts for more than quantity. Agree with Devon Owl - hope theres a way to move Clinton Morrison on. Useless overpaid whinger that even makes Francis Jeffers look like a good buy. He wouldn't even make my Sunday league team!

I certainly don't mind waiting that little bit longer if we can acquire player of the same calibre as Bennett. His no-nonsense approach to defending will add some steel to our back four!

Comments on Vital NFFC lead me to think that we have got a quality signing on the books.Usually there are a few derogatory posts when a player leaves a club but there seems to be a genuine affection for Jules especailly that he will commit 100% all the time for the cause. His injury obviously has had a detrimental effect on his career in the not too distant past but providing he can retain his fitness level and doesn't succumb to a recurrence I have no doubt that he will be pushing NW for player of the year come the end of May!

Good signing we have got here alot better than Spurr although I don't think we should of got rid of Spurr, Daniel Jones should have been out of the club before Spurr.

Mellor's a write off- donny, Watford and Southampton are all in for him
Carbone's Padawan
Wonder if we could Frankie Simek back on the books? We would have a pretty solid defence then.....

I would love to get Frankie back, been in great form from what ive heard, what a balls up that was.
