Owls make Semedo fourth signing

Owls make Semedo fourth signing

Wednesday have completed a deal to sign Charlton Athletic's out-of-contract midfielder Jose Semedo.

The 26-year-old former Sporting Lisbon midfielder has been linked with a move to Hillsborough all summer and he's finally put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal.

The Addicks were keen to keep the Portuguese man and a number of other clubs were understood to be tracking the 26-year-old but Wednesday have won the race for his signature.

Semedo was Charlton's player of the year last season and was also their captain in the second half of the season.

He's a holding midfielder who can also play at centre and becomes Wednesday's fourth signing of the close season so far after David Prutton, Rob Jones and Julian Bennett.

I know that the lack of signings has been frustrating but I would rather bring in good quality players that will make a difference than just numbers to make us happy. Looks like Megson is getting the right kind of players to me.

still lacking pace and creativity at the moment and a striker short at least but if the rest of the signings are as good as these we should be competative

Although I wasn't that keen on Meggo its starting to feel like we have a real manager who doesn't rush things. Yes he is a bit negative, but so was sgt wilko. i think him and MM work well together and clearly like each other, which is always 1/2 of the battle. Saw an interview with Curbishley the other week and says the main reason for his success with charlton was his relationship with chairman. Also main reason he left West Ham. Starting o have a good feeling. Finally.

As a CAFC fan,|I can tell you that you have bagged a bargain...a solid reliable player but prone to the occassional yellow and red cards....always a 100%er, occassional off days, but a player I would have love to have kept at Charlton...

Sounds like a great signing. Good write up from a Charlton fan too. Can't be too easy to big up your player of the season who's jogged on to a new club in your league.

That's Forest and Charlton fans this week that have been sad to see players leave their respective clubs. Good news for us!

Another solid signing.... pleased about this one. I agree with Wedalways though.... could still do with a creative, pacy winger and two more strikers (including Mellor).
