Morrison close to Charlton switch

Out-of-favour Wednesday defender Michael Morrison is close to completing a move to the Owls' League One promotion rivals Charlton Athletic.

Addicks boss Chris Powell, who worked with Morrison at Leicester City, has been chasing the 23-year-old throughout the close season and hopes to complete a deal in time for Charlton's friendly clash against Welling United tomorrow.

Morrison hasn't travelled to Austria with the rest of the Wednesday squad for a pre-season training camp and is understood to be having his medical at The Valley today.

Athletic have agreed a fee with Bournemouth for the services of Simon Francis, with Morrison coming in as his replacement.

The former Foxes man will be pleased his end his nightmare stay at S6. Former Owls boss Alan Irvine brought him to S6 in the January transfer window but he fell down the pecking order towards the end of the season following the appointment of Gary Megson.

Morrison arrived at Wednesday with a good reputation following a successful spell at Leicester but it was always going to be difficult to make a positive impressive in an Owls defence that leaked goals left, right and centre last term.

It was thought the defender may get the pre-season to prove himself for a place in the new-look Owls defence but Megson has looked elsewhere to bolster his back-four.

Good news and good riddance.Another poor signing by Irvine, well done Megson for getting him out.

Linked to this from Twitter, was hoping it was Clinton to be honest! Still, you know what they say, one Morrison is better than two!
Owls That!
Can't really agree with the poor signing comment. He came in and Irvine, the man who signed him, left pretty sharpish. The fact he came into a defence leaking goals for fun, alongside two other new players (Reda and Reynolds), made it extremely difficult. I'd have definitely given him this season to show he's a good defender - which he is. He'll be great at Charlton.

Owls That! - maybe we can do a buy one, get one free deal?

Yeap I actually think he will go on and do very well. He was playing excellent at Leicester before. Good luck to him charlton have a decent player

I don't agree with the poor signing comment too. You just can't throw 3 new defenders into a team halfway through a season and expect miracles. He will go on to do well at Charlton I expect. This leaves us lighter now than I would like in defensive cover but all signs point to the fact that Jose Semedo can play there too. No more defensive outs please - not even Reynolds! I don't class Daniel Jones as a defender!

He deserved a chance. He's young and done it before in this league. He was chucked into a team where no one was playing well. He was also played a right back when he's a natural centre back so Megson may have let some one with plenty of potential go.

Was Daniel Jones ever a defender?? When he was signed I saw him playing the Left wing (Reportedly his best position) but he ended up playing behind Teale, when he did get a game. I thought he was signed as a Left wing/ possible wing back but got played as a left back... never did understand it!! Looked shocking a lot of the times I saw him play but always cut him slack being I thought he was being played out of position. But then last season I saw some great managerial calls loved it when we played Coke wide right with Potter and O'conner in the centre... Please sense the sarcasm in that. (At least that can't happen again!!)

As for Morrison he never did get his chance but I think we've enough cover for centre-backs with Buxton re-signing and us not letting "The Beaver" go... With Semedo signed that can cover aswell we've at least 5 that can play there so if we can get our money back I think it's good business.

Oh and in addition the players Irvine signed in Jan' by what I read cost 1.3 million and upped our wages bill by 25% so there's a chance he may be expensive as well!!

I dont class daniel Jones as a footballer let alone a left back! I still cant believe we signed him, when we signed him or how we signed him?! He just appeared from no where!
Owls That!
its on official site hes gone to charlton

Coming from Leicester I don't think it was Irvine's signing. I think you're right SheffWed93, as I keep pleading the case with people slating Beevers. I used to think Richard Wood was poor but when he turned 23 he started to play well and come into is own so I don't feel you can judge a defender until about 24. Hence letting Spurr go wasn't a great decision!

I think that either Beevers or Reda will have a good season next year next to Jones. It looks like we now have experience to guide one of these youngsters through and they will actually have protection from the midfield now we have Semedo. We have conceded far too many in the last few seasons where teams seem to just walk straight through the middle of our defence and I think this has been a mix of poor organisation and a bad centre midfield. If we line up Bennet - Beevers/Reda - R Jones - Otsemebor I think that is a strong defence. The right back position is good for now if we see weaknesses there is always January
