Owls confirm Morrison departure

As reported on Vital Wednesday earlier, defender Michael Morrison has left the club to join League One rivals Charlton Athletic.

Addicks boss Chris Powell, who worked with Morrison at Leicester City, has been chasing the defender for a number of weeks and has finally got his man for an undisclosed fee.

Morrison has penned a three-year deal at The Valley and ends a nightmare spell at Hillsborough, which saw him make just 15 appearances in the blue and white following his move to S6 from the Foxes in the January transfer window.

He was signed by former Owls boss Alan Irvine but quickly fell down the pecking order following Gary Megson's arrival as manager.

Morrison becomes Charlton's eleventh senior signing of the summer so far.

don't think we're in a position to be giving out second chances really so I can completely understand this sale. i think Morrison had a lot of potential for us but just failed to deliver in the short space of time we had him. tell you what though, i'd prefer to see another morrison out the door being totally honest.

I think Clinton is going to be used as the first line of defense... he's just gonna sit on his arse on the half way line and bitch about stuff hopefully distracting players on the other team enough to allow the other 9 out-field players space and time... Actually no... he did that last season and it didn't work!! :o)

I would just like to say that obviously this has something to do with our recent aquisition. I still believe Michael Morrison will one day be a top player and has not been given a fair crack of the whip. Megson must have had a problem with him.

Well he have Jones, Beevers, Johnson, Buxton and Reynolds who can play centre back, maybe even Batth to return, thats more than enough cover and quality, Morrison would have been my pick to go too. seemed a bit too slow.

Agree with Dezzy. We have enough cover at centre back and can't keep players for the sake of it. We need the right quality with players that can be consistent. If we hold on to players just hoping they'll come good then we won't be able to bring more players in and then we could end up with another crap season in League 1 like last year all over again. As for Clinton Morrison, anyone who really believes that he is going to offer any more than he did last season, now he's another year older, is just dreaming. At best he's a poacher (was a poacher) because most of us can walk faster than he can run.

shame it didn't work out as he seems to have all the right atributes to be a quality player for us but Meggo seems to know what he is doing so will keep faith this is the right decision

Best thing all round to let him go.Was very poor whenever he played,pity Charlton wouldnt take our other Morrison as well cos all I can see is the same season for him.Bitching about everything and throwing his arms in the air.Agree totally with baldowl.
