Irvine returns to Everton as academy boss

Former Wednesday manager Alan Irvine has taken up a new coaching role after returning to Everton as academy manager.

Irvine had been tipped to replace Colin Calderwood should he leave SPL side Hibernian but has opted for a return to Goodison Park for a third time.

The Scot was assistant to David Moyes before he left the Toffees to pursue a manager's role at Preston North End and then at Hillsborough.

Irvine was unable to steer Wednesday to safety in the Championship and struggled to mount a promotion push from League One last season, resulting in him getting the sack in January.

His role at Everton will be the third with the Premier League club, after also playing for the Toffees in his playing days.

Always liked Irvine as a man so wish him the best of luck!

I think he should stay at Everton this time and re-build his reputation after Preston and us last season. fully agree with TD and wish him all the best i'm sure it will work out

Surprised he hasn't got a job as a manager somewhere. He more then over acheived at Preston. Ad he would have kept us up based on our form with him in The Championship. He got sacked with us for a bad month (although I did believe he should go). Think he'll do well.

Good luck to him. It's a good appointment for him and Everton, he's an excellent coach.

I echo the sentiments, good luck to AI. Just didn't work out here for him but a decent bloke who deserves to remain in football for a few years.
