Owls and Blades set for joint sponsor

Wednesday and United are set to share shirt sponsors for the very first time, with a sponsorship deal with Westfield Health and the Gilders Group to be announced.

Two of Sheffield's biggest firms have agreed deals with the npower League One duo and will have identical logos on both clubs' shirts next season, according to an article today in the Yorkshire Post.

The rumour was mentioned some weeks ago and is set to be confirmed within the next 48 hours - just in time for the launch of Wednesday's new home shirt on Sunday.

It will be the first time the Steel City clubs have shared sponsors, but it won't be the first time such a deal has been in place with British football clubs.

Glasgow clubs Rangers and Celtic have a joint deal with Tennent's and have also shared Carling as their shirt sponsors.

The deal is believed to be worth a six-figure sum to both clubs.

Wednesday had donated their shirt sponsorship to Sheffield Children's Hospital for the last two years, while the Blades had been sponsored by the Maltese Tourism Authority.

Wednesday released their new away shirt with no sponsor and the front, with fans being able to return to the club shop to have the new sponsor placed on the front once confirmed. The new home kit is launched at an open day at Hillsborough on Sunday.

The sponsorship deal is expected to be announced within the next 48 hours.

At last - first signs that we are taking the first step in the enevitable - merging with United. About time too. If football in Sheffield is to prosper this IS the only way forward.

Wednesday are the bigger club, have a bigger fanbase and sell more shirts so hopefully Wednesday are getting more out of this than Utd are, a 75/25 split seems fair to me!!

Not sure why it matters that we share a sponsor, money money money. I would buy and wear a Wednesday shirt with United as the sponsor if they were giving us the money, unfortunately that is what it is about in football these days. Now for the difficult part turn the money into promotion!

Short sighted Radon?! Can't see Liverpool/Everton, Birmingham/Villa, Forest/Derby or Rangers/Celtic ever agreeing to anything absured so why should we?

no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, not a chance, i'd sooner eat my own liver than merge with that cartload of freaks, radons on drugs, or needs to be, his merger talk is absurd, he should be made to seek psychiatric help before being allowed to post anymore. w.t.i.d

Bad day for Radon, I'm sure he has the owls at heart. I mean in this merger we would still be called Wednesday wouldn't we? Such a great name is why I started supporting the club in the first place!
