Owls target Town ace Roberts

Wednesday boss Gary Megson is interested in signing Huddersfield Town winger Gary Roberts, according to reports.

Megson is desperate to strengthen his squad, especially on the wings, and looks set to miss out on Leicester City winger Lloyd Dyer, who is keen to remain at the King Power Stadium.

It means Megson could turn his attentions to signing highly-rated Roberts from npower League One promotion rivals Town.

Roberts has just one year left on his contract at the Galpharm Stadium and has already rejected an offer of a new and improved deal at the club.

It could mean Wednesday could snap-up the former Ipswich Town man for a cut-price fee this summer.

Roberts has been a star performer for the Terriers since his arrival at the club and a fee of around 750,000 could see the Owls snatch the winger from West Yorkshire.

Now your talking. ! Get him signed, before someone else does.
Kettering OWL 1963
Kettering OWL 1963, is he any good? not really seen him play.
DEZZYP
He was their player of the year 2 years running after he signed in 2008. A winger who scores more than his fair share of goals (about 1 in 4 or 5 for Huddersfield). The fee is a strange one considering we didn't appear to be able to stretch anywhere near that far for Danny Green!
TheMightyBoosh
the fee is very strange. i think it is made up. a league 1 player would need to be pretty special to command 750k
Hirsty's Shinpads
didnt Huddersfield just sell that pilkington to Norwich for 3 million or something daft like that? good to see one of our promotion rivals seeing some of their better players leave, and replacing them with tommy miller.
DEZZYP
Maybe MM has started to realise we are running out of time as the new season is round the corner. Time to invest for the future or bite the bullet on price! Which every way you look at it he would be a great addition to our and many other teams
Kettering OWL 1963
Agree KO 1963 that he would be a good signing and takes an excellent player away from one of our main promotion rivals. Again though, all this is pure speculation right now with nothin in quotes as yet from any party.
TheMightyBoosh
Would love to see this one come off but cant see it some how. Its about time we looked at players in our division with the know how of league 1 and the desire for a challenge. I'm not sure he will see us as a step up but hope I'm wrong
AuzzieOwl
Well at the end of last season, Megson said he wanted 9 new players, 6 free, 3 for a fee and we still havent spent a penny. Would be nice to actually buy somebody and not get somebody else's cast offs.
DEZZYP
Well Semedo is a great signing and wouldn't call him a Charlton 'cast off' to say the least. They were desperate to keep him! Thing we've done great business so far but know what you mean Dezzy, after the takeover it would be nice to invest a little money - doesn't need to be a fortune!
TheMightyBoosh
Yeah cast off's was a bit harsh, im actually pleased with the freebies. much, much better than last summer. We just seem to be lacking a little creativity now going forward. Defensivly im delighted with, Jones and a new left back where my hopes for the new season, problem sorted. Might have to spend a few quid on a bit of talent going forward though.
DEZZYP
one of the best wingers in league. would be a great signing, and definitely worth the money..hope we can get him n a couple of strikers before its too late
beighton0wl9
Would be a great signing. I'm still concerned with our attack though; I can't see Madine and Morrison getting enough goals between them. I have been desperate for us to buy a proven striker, a guaranteed 20 goal a season man, for years now. I wish MM would get the chequebook for a top striker. For example, why didn't we take a punt on Clayton Donaldson?
OrlandoT1982
would be really happy with this one and agreed definately time to add a striker or 2 and a pacey lefty aswell i think
wedalways
would be a quality signing but i have also seen rumour's of a rift between mm and gm ? Mm has said that he wont put any more money in and gm is fuming. Clayton donaldson is a gd call and he is available for free
retfordowl1867
it is worth paying for a player proven at this level and who fills a position we need filling. so far the signings have been great and we are actually building a team. we might be short on numbers right now but if we can make 3 or 4 more decent signings then we will be looking really good for promotion and when we get to the championships will just need to add more class in attacking areas. lets not expect it all at once but it really feels like good times are ahead for Sheffield Wednesday. This time when it looks like the management and squad are coming together there isn't the financial worries to spoil it. Sign him up please MM
Devon_Owl
He's not got a lot of pace, but he's a very tricky winger and definitely one of the best at this level. Would be an excellent signing.
kristmace
If were going to take a punt on free agents, craig fagan is out there on a free although he doesnt have the greatest of goalscoring records
1867Owl
clayton donaldson went to brentford about a week an a half ago...if we were to get chris O Grady, Mellor, This guy roberts and Danny Batth in we would be laughing. GK WEAVER RB BUXTON RCB JONES LCB BATTH LB BENNET RM JOHNSON RCM PRUTTON LCM SEMEDO LM ROBERTS RST MADINE LST MELLOR BENCH: BEEVERS, O GRADY, MORRISON, O DONNEL, COKE, OSTEMOBOR, SEDGEWICK, AND KOUMAS...MAYBE??
SGoodwin94
SGoodwin94, that looks like a squad at last. Koumas would be great, though a little unlikely. Im suprised Sedgewick is still at the club too.
DEZZYP
I can imagine that the only reason that Sedgwick is still there is our inability to sign suitable replacements right now. It might be worth getting a couple of young non-league strikers in on trial and giving them a week or so in training. A Charlie Austin sort of player could be just what we need and wouldn't cost much in fee and wages!
TheMightyBoosh
TheMightyBoosh, the word is on twitter we have a young irish lad on trial, not sure how accurate it is, padraig amond is his name from a club in portugal. padraigamond21.
DEZZYP
heard about that irish lad on trial too, didnt want to put sedgewick in there really, could do with getting rid of him, think i will swap sedgewick with palmer in that team actually but then we havent got a winger to replace jj or roberts if one of them were to get injured, think we should sign that weston as a back up aswell. looking at it though we still have o connor, reda johnson, reynolds, daniel jones and nathan modest all waiting in the squad so we should end up with a decent squad.
SGoodwin94
Lot of rumours about now! Apparently we have someone on trial over from Bolivia called Renan Addles, Le Fondre is a done deal in the next 48 hours and Andy Keogh on a season long loan!? No doubt its all jibber jabber!!
Owls That!
Would be a great signing, was excellent last season. Wouldn't say he's worth 750,000...
SheffWed93
Amazingly, agree with numbnuts93, 750,000 for le fondre would be a shocker. I don't think milan is looking to spend that this summer at all for a few players, never mind one.
DEZZYP
Agree with other posts, cant believe that Sedgewick is still at the club. Surely he will be offloaded when we sign a decent winger who can actually beat a defender and deliver a decent ball into the box. What a waste of space he is,a major disapointment for us.
