Owls target Town ace Roberts

Owls target Town ace Roberts

Wednesday boss Gary Megson is interested in signing Huddersfield Town winger Gary Roberts, according to reports.

Megson is desperate to strengthen his squad, especially on the wings, and looks set to miss out on Leicester City winger Lloyd Dyer, who is keen to remain at the King Power Stadium.

It means Megson could turn his attentions to signing highly-rated Roberts from npower League One promotion rivals Town.

Roberts has just one year left on his contract at the Galpharm Stadium and has already rejected an offer of a new and improved deal at the club.

It could mean Wednesday could snap-up the former Ipswich Town man for a cut-price fee this summer.

Roberts has been a star performer for the Terriers since his arrival at the club and a fee of around £750,000 could see the Owls snatch the winger from West Yorkshire.

He was their player of the year 2 years running after he signed in 2008. A winger who scores more than his fair share of goals (about 1 in 4 or 5 for Huddersfield). The fee is a strange one considering we didn't appear to be able to stretch anywhere near that far for Danny Green!

the fee is very strange. i think it is made up. a league 1 player would need to be pretty special to command 750k

didnt Huddersfield just sell that pilkington to Norwich for £3 million or something daft like that? good to see one of our promotion rivals seeing some of their better players leave, and replacing them with tommy miller.

Maybe MM has started to realise we are running out of time as the new season is round the corner. Time to invest for the future or bite the bullet on price! Which every way you look at it he would be a great addition to our and many other teams

Agree KO 1963 that he would be a good signing and takes an excellent player away from one of our main promotion rivals. Again though, all this is pure speculation right now with nothin in quotes as yet from any party.

Would love to see this one come off but cant see it some how. Its about time we looked at players in our division with the know how of league 1 and the desire for a challenge. I'm not sure he will see us as a step up but hope I'm wrong

Well at the end of last season, Megson said he wanted 9 new players, 6 free, 3 for a fee and we still havent spent a penny. Would be nice to actually buy somebody and not get somebody else's cast offs.

Well Semedo is a great signing and wouldn't call him a Charlton 'cast off' to say the least. They were desperate to keep him! Thing we've done great business so far but know what you mean Dezzy, after the takeover it would be nice to invest a little money - doesn't need to be a fortune!
