Owls beat Millers at Don Valley

Owls beat Millers at Don Valley

Wednesday made it two wins from as many domestic friendly matches as goals from Lewis Buxton and Gary Madine saw them to a 2-1 victory over Rotherham United.

Over 5,000 fans were in attendance at the Don Valley Stadium for what was a Millers home match, although Wednesdayites outnumbered the 'home' support.

They got a win for their money as Lewis Buxton broke the deadlock just after half-time before Gary Madine doubled the advantage. Adam Le Fondre pulled a goal back for the npower League Two side but it was too little, too late.

Owls boss Gary Megson named a strong starting line-up for the clash, arguably the strongest he has available at the moment. Irish striker Padraig Amond, on trial with the club, was amongst the substitutes and made his debut in the blue and white stripes for the second half.

The result will leave Owls fans in good spirits ahead of Saturday's home friendly clash against Leeds United.

I thought last night at the DVS we had a team out that with the right additions is a team that will do just what we want and give us a better season than the last one. I'm not willing to wax lyrical being that this was just a warm up match. (Some of the Rotherham tackles clearly showed it was their Cup Final though) However there were few mistakes and everyone's fitness is getting there... Rotherham used their bench a lot more than we did and were making the running in the last 10 minutes. That being said we only changed Almond for Morrison at the half and put O'conner on for Jose in the 80th everyone else gave us 90 minutes. (Almond was a great deal more evident than Morrison in the first half but that may be we couldn't see him as the goal in the first half was a fair way away lol) Left the ground with a faint feeling in my gut... worked out that this was hope. Let's get the additions needed sooner rather and later and push on! WTID
