Stocksbridge down young Owls side

Stocksbridge down young Owls side

A YOUNG Wednesday side went down to a 2-0 defeat against Stocksbridge Park Steels at the Look Local Stadium tonight.

With the senior side playing in the 2-1 friendly victory over Rotherham United last night, it was down to the club's young guns to take on the Evo-Stik Premier League side.

Trialist Padraig Amond did get a start following his second half appearance in the clash at Don Valley against the Millers, whilst Mark Beevers and James O'Connor were also included in the squad.

It was a squad mainly made up of youth though and Steels took advantage to claim a pre-season scalp.

It was all square going into the 76th-minute before an own goal from Wednesday's Ayo Obileye gave the hosts the lead and Mark Ward made it 2-0 late on from a set piece.

Wednesday squad: O'Donnell, Tumulty, Reynolds, O'Connor (Rowbottom 70), Beevers, Obileye, Santini (White 57), Nyoni, Oliver (Husbands 64) (HUs, Amond (Ayoola 46), Modest (Canham 46).Unused sub: Cuff.

I have to admit that when Weaver got injured last season I thought that Jameson would fill in as he was seen as the better prospect of the 2 but he got injured at the same time. Not sure why he hasn't played some part this pre-season. I can see one of Jameson or O'Donnell going out on a season long loan.

Nice to see Megson looking at the rest of his options... if he doesn't get the additions he needs afterall he is going to have to do it with what he's got!! So the own goal came off a Junior Johnson cross?? Is JJ's brother younger or older??

we need to sign that santini, check him out on youtube, he has better skill than jj and dyer put together and he knows when to cross the ball, he is a class act that needs to be signed, especially if he is available on a free and i think he is only 24, we need a winger why not get him signed megson??

Youtube will only show the best bits. Did anyone actually see him last night, what was he like in person?

His best bits look great though. We need someone with that little extra. We have a tiny squad with two trialists who both look like they have potential. Really hope we sign them can only see us winning on these two gambles in our current situation. The fact both are coming overseas for a trial shows how keen they are!

exactly, we desperately need a winger and youve got a great one right here that WANTS to join us, if we were to let him go we'd be stupid!!
