Seven subbed for five in rule change

The Owls, and the rest of the Football League clubs, will only name five substitutes instead of seven this coming campaign.

The League had a vote amongst its member clubs whether to stick with seven substitutes again for the 2011-12 season or revert back to naming five.

And clubs have voted in favour of returning to use five subs, as was the case before the rule change at the start of last season.

Many clubs struggled to field a full squad of 18 players in matches last season due to injuries and financial problems which limited first team squad numbers.

'This was felt to be a sensible and prudent step given the financial challenges facing many football clubs and the commitment made earlier this summer to adopt Uefa's Financial Fair Play framework,' a League spokesman said.

Seven substitutes will still be allowed in the FA Cup and Carling Cup competitions, but managers will only be allowed to name five subs in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
