Trialist Amond to extend Owls stay

Wednesday manager Gary Megson has revealed that he'll keep trialist Padraig Amond at the club for an extra week.

The Irish striker was due to return to Portugal, where he's been playing his football, tomorrow morning but Megson will keep the 23-year-old at S6 for another week as he weighs up whether to sign him permanently or not.

The former Shamrock Rovers man arrived in Sheffield on Tuesday and was thrown straight into the squad that took on Rotherham United in a friendly later the same day.

He started the next match against Stocksbridge Park Steels the following day and also started in today's 1-1 draw against Leeds United at Hillsborough.

Megson revealed the news straight after the clash with Simon Grayson's men on BBC Radio Sheffield but admitted that he's only ever taken one trialist on a permanent basis ad that it was a mistake.

Megson didn't name the player or the club but revealed that he'd only signed on at the club to get his girlfriend into the country to go to university.

Hopefully one day Megson will comment and it will be full of positives. Who cares about his past trialists!

What did we think of Amond against Leeds. Not getting to many games at the moment because I'm working weekends but when I try the forums, except for this one, they seem full of pessimists and moaners. I don't think much of Amond is all that I have read and in the reports he has sounded like at least a prospect. There is also a lot of doom and gloom about the small squad and people are slagging off Mandaric. Can we all get on board and just support our club. We are looking a lot better off even if we have a small squad. We are taking our time to sign quality and have addressed the centre midfield. Hopefully strikers and a winger will come soon, but there is always January and loans if the current can't do the job!

Well I think that any success will be built on a good defence and without putting a mockers on things, we certainly seem stronger in that department. The CM department has been addressed and adds to the defensive qualities we have and just need to get the attacking blend right now.

didnt think much to amond based on today's game but he may have been tired from previous games.megson must like something about him lets see if he plays at barnsley

Amond may well be signed as a back-up striker because at present these are Vadaine Oliver and Nathan Modest. Hopefully then he'll develop and get more confidence over the season.

He has big game experience against teams like Porto and Benfica, which is a higher level than most of the squad so that already gives him an air of 'quality' amongst the players. I'm not saying this enough to sign him but there obviously is something about him? If he's free and better than Clinton Morrisson i'll take him!
Owls That!
