Owls linked with bid for Roberts

Wednesday have today been linked with a £300,000 move for Huddersfield Town midfielder Gary Roberts

Roberts could leave the Galpharm Stadium this summer after he turned down the Terriers' latest offer of a new contract, and the Owls have been rumoured to be amongst the front-runners for his services.

An offer has yet to be confirmed from either club but today's People is reporting that Wednesday boss Gary Megson is about to lodge a 300k offer for the 27-year-old.

Championship clubs Hull City, Brighton and Hove Albion and Southampton have also been linked with the former Ipswich Town man.

Roberts has been one of Town's best performers since his move to the club from Portman Road but Terriers boss Lee Clark is resigned to losing the player this summer or risk losing him on a free transfer at the end of the season.

That won't be enough and he'll join a championship squad. The end.
Carbone's Padawan
patience young padawan. i see your point, if there's a chance of going up a league surely he'd jump at it.
nevabeatdes
Carbones right im afraid, like there going to accept £300,000!! come on wednesday!!
SGoodwin94
would be a class signing heard the o'grady bid has been accepted to ?
retfordowl1867
Well if they turn it down (and they will) we need to go in firmer and with more purpose. Danny Green slipped through the net like this and Roberts is regarded as a better player too!
TheMightyBoosh
agreed mighty we need to play hard ball with this one! would be a great signing though
wedalways
More chance of signing Audrey Roberts!!
sussexowl
More chance of signing Jake The Snake Roberts

It doesn't sound like a lot of money but don't forget that not even a lot of Championship clubs are offering fees for players in the current climate. I can also imagine that knowing that Milan has cash that all clubs think they can bump up the price a couple of 100k which means we have to play the game in the opposite direction and be stubborn. But as we can all see, it's worked really well so far...bung em another 100k Milan and get it sorted.

In other news, I like our new kit, looks quality. A return to the mid 90's. Let's hope a few more players than we have currently will be wearing it next season, we're very light on the ground this close to a new season.
Balli80
I agree Balli80 about the kit and think the VW crest really sets it off too.
TheMightyBoosh
I think the problem we are going to have in getting him is it will turn us from play off contenders to promotion contenders. Is £300000 enough to tempt a sale and jeopardise their chances? Would be one of the best signings in a few years though.
AuzzieOwl
The VW looks OK but i preferrred the Chupa Chups one!

You been on the Wacky Backy again Radon?
TheDon1974
I also liked the Mr Tom one.

I think we are looking fragile - we cannot afford many injuries. Look at the options we've had when people have got knocks in pre-season - we've substitutes playing out of position. I have faith that we will bring in a couple more players, but they won't have time to gel with the rest of the team. I'm feeling a bit nervous about the start of the season........
SeattleOWL
I'm feeling confident that we have the defence sorted and hopefully we'll find our way to goal more as the season develops!
TheMightyBoosh
it's all looking a bit like the start of last season, except we have'nt signed as many players. Do we want to go up or dont we. We haven't signed the players cos we haven't stumped up the cash. I predict another mediocre season here.
MightyWednesday
If you believe reports, Coventry City have had a £500,000 offer turned down for Le Fondre.
TheMightyBoosh
It wouldnt hurt for us to chase Le Fondre
AuzzieOwl
agreed it wouldn't hurt but if cov get le fondre would that free up Eastwood for a cheeky bid
wedalways
More chance of signing Julia Roberts
Carbone's Padawan
...and Clint Eastwood!
TheMightyBoosh
How about Benson from Charlton, his transfer to Notts County has collapsed, he seems to score plenty??
sussexowl
Benson would be a good signing for us at this level.Thought it was Scunthorpe who had a bid rejected for Le Fondre.
