Owls' Premier push for players

Owls' Premier push for players

Wednesday boss Gary Megson is understood to be turning his attentions to two Premier League 'fringe players' with time running out on a deal for long-term interest Neil Mellor.

Megson is desperate to bolster his attacking options ahead of the new npower League One season and has been chasing the services of Neil Mellor throughout the summer.

But with no clear end to discussions with the former Owls loanee in sight, the Wednesday boss could be forced to turn his attentions elsewhere.

The Owls have also had a bid for Rochdale striker Chris O'Grady turned down, although they could return to Spotlands with an improved offer for the former Leicester City hitman.

And Megson may now look to the loan market to bring in a new striker ahead of the big kick-off on Saturday, August 6.

Norwich City striker Cody McDonald and West Brom hitman Chris Wood are two names that have been linked with a move to Hillsborough this week.

McDonald, 25, is surplus to requirements at Carrow Road following the Canaries' promotion and City have made him available for transfer.

McDonald knows the lower leagues well after hitting 25 goals for Gillingham in League Two last term and he's keen for regular first team football next term, whether that be a permanent move away from Carrow Road or a loan deal.

Wood, a New Zealand international, had experience of League One football last term thanks to a six-month loan stint in helping Brighton to promotion.

Megson could look to either, or both players to boost his attacking options for the new season.

And with the new season moving ever closer, the Owls boss will keen to wrap-up a deal sooner rather than later - so keep your eyes on Vital Sheffield Wednesday for all the latest transfer news.

Mc Donald sounds a regular scorer. Anybody know anymore about him?

Shows what a clue Megson has that it takes for O'Grady to turn us down before we then decide to then go for a young prospect, league 1 winner, World Cup experience, and Premier League experience.

Norwich value him at £550,000 so that should rule us out straight away.

heard that too leons gloves...its ridicoulous that they want 1/2 a million for an unwanted player!

Calm down..... they may have asked for 550K, but I bet they'd accept a fair bit less.....
29/07/2011 12:43:00
If we get both of these plus a decent winger and maybe a player maker think we will be promotion contenders, we have been linked with some decent players but as yet we havent bought any it, come on get it done, only a week to go....

Interesting that numbers 8,9 and 10 have been unallocated as yet. Would be nice if Mellor was 10, O'Grady 9, Koumas 8. Now that's wishful thinking!!!

What makes McDonald a premiership player anyway. Has he played in the prem or is he a league 1 player. Played in league 2 last year so 550k sounds ridiculous to me!

Then and again he/Mc Donald could be the answer to our prayers. I DID SAY MAYBE. Also it would have to be for the right money

he is worth £300,000 at best, norwich are being proper greedy they just want as much money as they can so that when they go straight back down they dont get massive debts.
