Owls look to match Le Fondre valuation

Owls look to match Le Fondre valuation

Wednesday are expected to return to Rotherham United with a new and improved bid for star striker Adam Le Fondre this week.

Owls boss Gary Megson turned his attentions to the 24-year-old Millers man last week to bolster his squad's firepower but saw an initial bid, understood to be £200,000, turned down by the League Two side.

Rotherham chairman Tony Stewart said the bid 'was not worth taking seriously' and Wednesday may have to match the Millers' valuation of at least half a million for Le Fondre's services.

The Owls are leaving a late to add a new striker to their squad with the big kick-off just days away.

Wednesday have already seen a bid for Rochdale hitman Chris O'Grady turned down and are understood to be out of the running for Norwich City's out-of-favour striker Cody McDonald.

Now Le Fondre, who bagged 24 goals for the Millers last term, is the main target ahead of Saturday's opener at home against Rochdale.

Time for us to go in hard or move on! We're not going to get anyone in before the end of Aug with a proven track record at this rate!

At last the possibility of someone who will be hungry to prove himself and a good track record. Please stump up the cash and lets move forward.

Radio Leicester last night had Sven saying they are interested in singing Alf but wouldn't do anything until after their Carling Cup clash with them next week. The plot thickens!

Mellor and Miller were our top scorers last seasons, where are the goals going to come from unless we bring in at least 2 strikers which will cost money??

TheMightyBoosh....leicster are trying to get a deal with shane long at the moment so if they get him they wont be bothered...also are you sure he hasnt got higher targets considering there loaded and are looking for promotion this season and if theyre going for promotion there not gonna want a striker that isnt even proven at league 1 level?

I can't believe we've left it so late. So little time for anyone to settle in. Or are these shock tac-tics for us/the fans, any player who joins us and our opposition. To me all this should have been sorted out weeks ago.

Patience young Jedis :-) The transfer market has been very slow and the dominoes are still falling. M and M will be looking to get the best possible bang for their buck and that means we might not get someone until after the start of the season. I watched the Leeds game start to finish last night and thought the new signings were all very good additions to the team. I'm happy to wait if it means we get the quality we need, not just the quantity as per last season....
