Just in Benik of time for Owls?

Wednesday will kick-off the 2011-12 npower League One season tomorrow with just two recognised strikers on their books in Gary Madine and Clinton Morrison.

Owls boss Gary Megson has tried desperately to bolster his firepower in time for the season opener against Rochdale, with bids for Rotherham's Adam Le Fondre and Rochdale's Chris O'Grady rejected.

There's also been reported interest in Ipswich Town hitman Jason Scotland and a long-running bid to secure the services of last season's loan star Neil Mellor, who is expected to start the campaign at Preston.

But Wednesday appear to be no closer to solving their attacking options and may have to go with what they have at Hillsborough come 3pm tomorrow.

That is unless reports today linking Arsenal striker Benik Afobe with a move to Hillsborough are true.

The Sun, yes, the ever-reliable tabloid, has today reported that Afobe has penned a season-long loan with the Owls for this season.

Interest in the fast striker became public in midweek and the national tabloid has today published a short story saying a deal is done.

Afobe spent last season on-loan at Huddersfield Town but Gunners boss Arsene Wenger was looking for a Championship side to take his young striker on loan after he proved himself at League One level last term.

The Owls have yet to comment on Afobe and confirm or deny any interest in his services, but BBC Radio Sheffield is reporting that three bids are on the table for new players.

One other is expected to be Le Fondre, and a third bid could well be for a winger following an injury to Jermaine Johnson this week.

It could be a long day today, but it could be a day which sees Wednesday bolster their attacking powers for the season opener.

Agreed - the work of an editorial genius! I don't know much about Benik but from the description he sounds like exactly what we need - we don't have enough pace in the team right now.

According to GM on football heaven last night, (para phrasing here) not in for Benick, he's not taking on any loan players especially youngsters to make there miostakes at SWFC to learn for thier parent clubs. he also aid he had no idea what was happening regards bids and potentiakl signings 'cos he only gave the names to MM and Aldrige does all the negotiations and he's NOT in the loop! Oh well sounds like I've fell for it for the 47th consecutive season!! you'd think i was old enough to know better lol. I LOVE FOOTBAL - Roll on 3 o'clock tomorrow, or 12 if ya count goin in't Park.

Looks like we won't be having Chris wood on loan he's signed for Birmingham for the season to enjoy championship and European football , should be interesting to keep an eye on
1867Owl
Yep, Chris Wood has moved to Brum and Afobe has said there is only one team in Yorkshire which is Huddersfield so he's burnt his bridges there - FACT!
TheDon1974
Blind faith doesn't win promotion, strikers do, and the reason we haven't signed any is not because Mandy's tight with his wads, it's because we have a manager no striker or creative midfielder wants to play for. Prediction: Megson will be gone within 6 weeks.
