Statement of Intent

Sheffield Wednesday Chairman Milan Mandaric has today addressed supporters` concerns over the lack of signings at S6.

In the statement, which you can view in full on the Sheffield Wednesday Official Site, Mandaric suggests that finding the right targets for offensive positions hasn`t been the problem; rather other teams` unrealistic valuations of their players are to blame.

Mandaric says he is very happy with the squad in other areas and the strengthening that has taken place, but he suggests he is just as frustrated as the rest of us at the lack of attacking signings.

He goes on to say that Gary Megson and the players have had a very productive pre-season in Austria and at home, and that everyone is excited by the challenge of the forthcoming season, no one more so than himself.

The statement ends with Milan thanking the supporters for buying Season Tickets in their thousands, and urges everyone to get behind the manager and team to propel us back into the Championship.

A reassuring statement, however it does imply no further signings are imminent. We may just have to be patient a little while longer.

Yep. You should apologise Mick, if it wasn't for Milan you wouldn't have a club to lose patience with.

I'm with you Carbone, he may have money to burn and at some stage he will move on but good business now will prevent a dimise in the future which so nearly cost all of us so much last season. His good business acumen now will stand us in good stead in the future and I would like to shake the mans hand and thank him. Had we got docked 10 points for going into administration things could have been far worse. His only real mistake was saying he was hoping to bring in 7 - 9 players for which they have tried to do.

how can fans be losing patience before the season has even started!!! as Carbone said if it wasn't for MM we would all be following the likes of Sheffield FC respectivley. We have the same problem as teams like Chelsea and Man City - new owner with money lets come in and other teams purposely double players valuation!!! On a different subject can not wait for 3 tomorrow, it's going to be a good season which leads me to ask what fans would prefer 2nd and the double over the blades who win the league over vice versa?

Well I've just read his statement on the 'official' site and can only be encouraged by it. Loads of clubs are 'owned' these days and until we became one of 'em I often wondered what fans thought about that. We know how they feel at ManU, and L'pool. How about ManCity, really? Birmingham? Well If you ask me MM has his head screwed on and SWFC is definitely work in progress. I'm with Auzzie. Have faith folks.

Cant be doing with you lot that never have a negative thing to say about Wednesday. We're the fans and have a right to an opinion and its because of us that Wednesday are still in existence. So stop brown nosin, Milan is a footy fan and I'm glad he's with us, but at the end of the day he's out to make money. So be it, but I think its our offers which are unrealistic to lure decent players to our great club if we want to make it back to the big time.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion but please look at the facts, no MM where would we be? Buying over priced players paying inflated wages in the past contributed to our demise. Many promised take overs and injections of cash never came. Now my obsession in checking these sights out comes from the hope of new players not administration or take overs. My glasses may be Rose tinted and my glass is half full which is better than we have felt for well over a decade. If that is brown noisin then I stand accused!!!

Milan is great. He is basically saying: "I have the money, but I also know how much something costs and I am not willing to allow you to rip me off." This is who we need as a chairman. This mentality is going to lift us up and it's amazing how lucky we are to have this man in charge. Players and managers will probably come and go but I am really excited to have Mandaric at the helm as a looooooooooong-term chairman.

MightyWednesday, I don't think it's a case of us offering unrealistic fees, I think it's other clubs who have an inflated valuation of their own players. They know we've got Milan now and cleared the debts so think they can take the mick. I'm glad Milan is standing up for us and saying no, you know what, you're not worth it!

My bet for the day - Rochdale to score the first goal of the new Div 1 season - O'grady one nil. Wednesday in late win 2-1. Bring it on.

This is great, isn't it? So much better than "Tell It To Tony". We all have valid opinions and I actually like reading what 'supporting this shower gives me the divine right to be miserable' has to say for himself. There's probably more of them out there anyway, but that's okay. I just can't go along with the notion that pessimists are never disappointed. Supporting Wednesday is all about handling disappointment. It's compulsory! It's what binds us together! It also makes each victory taste sweeter. You want glory? Go follow ManU. They bitch when they only manage a draw. Or Arsenal, they're really in turmoil aren't they? Me? I'm Wednesday till I die, but I refuse to let it get me down. No-one said it was going to be easy but it sure is GREAT! Come on you Owls!!

It's good that the Chairman is actually telling us what's going on. Thanks to Lee Stafford we have got used to this level of openness. MM is right not to pay over the odds, but just imagine a few injuries and suddenly we'll be paying well over the odds for decent loan cover. Another consideration might be the reluctance of some players to join Ginger Murinios arduous training regieme. What cover do we have in the reserves as strikers?

Haha I'm with OurMaurice. Couldn't agree more. If somebody can tell me what being miserable about your club actually achieves then I would love to hear... You want Sheffield Wednesday to be the force they were then get behind them and by that I mean don't just go to the game and after 3 passes go astray start saying that player is *****e, that player isn't worth the shirt, I paid 20 quid for this... The boo boys are haven't helped over the last few years. The club is now under good management, has a good chairman and an improving team. We should be together on this one. If the chairman is positive, so am I!

Also it I don't think Wood will be coming in http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/14420327.stm I think the fact we were going after a player who has gone to Birmingham shows ambition. Also my last post isn't a personal post at anyone, I can't be the only one bored of boo boys though

There will always be fans that are always on the look out for something to criticise. I think that quite a lot of people have forgot how and why we have spent so long struggling around the lower leagues and almost went out of exisence since being relegated from the premier league 11 years ago. Well, we had a board and chairmen that spent over the odds on average players and paid silly wages like it didn't matter. We've now got a good and clued up chairman with a manager that has a track record of building solid teams and getting promotion. All this "just spend and get players in cos Mandaric can afford it" stuff is just short sighted and dumb in my opinion. This team needs backing by the fans, win or lose, and so I won't even bother coming on here to read the predictable comments that will follow if we lose today - in game 1 of the season.

If you look back to this time last season I think things are really positive; yes, it's frustrating that we haven't been able to secure a forward or two but we look like a solid side and that's a good start for me. I like the look of Semedo and Prutton in the engine and our defence looks as solid as I've seen it in 10 years. There is still the best part of a month to do business and I'm confident GM and MM know what they're doing and we'll get a forward before the window shuts. On MM - we have no right to demand him to spend his money - yes, he perhaps shouldn't have been so bullish about how many players we were going to buy but I think we can let him off for that. If we spend a fortune on a player now it sets a precedent for other clubs to follow and quite simply in this day and age you can't afford to be lavish.

Blind faith doesn't win promotion, strikers do, and the reason we haven't signed any is not because Mandy's tight with his wads, it's because we have a manager no striker or creative midfielder wants to play for. Prediction: Megson will be gone within 6 weeks.

I think in 6 weeks when we are in the top 6, with the lowest goals conceded it will be your silly comments gone from the forum Megson_out. We will have strikers signed by then and saying they don't want to play for Megson is just daft, I'm pretty sure the problem has been asking prices. Has Megson slept with your Mrs or something? You seem to blindly have it in for him

Cant believe that any Owls fan would critisise Milan. If it wasnt for him we might not have a club or be in League 2 after a 10 point deduction. The guy knows what he is doing, knows what Le Fondre is worth and wont pay over the odds for him or anyone else.Im frustrated just like we all are about our lack of striking signings but Im certain we will get someone in before window shuts. Good win on Saturday, not pretty but effective.

All successful sides are built on a strong defensive foundation which we now have, probably the best for many years. I'll put money on Wednesday conceding the fewest goals in league 1 this season, although to counter that we won't be the highest scorers either!!
