Preston to sign Owls trialist Tsoumou

Preston North End are set to sign striker Juvhel Tsoumou, who was on trial with Wednesday this summer.

The 20-year-old Alemannia Aachen hitman played in the Owls' pre-season friendly clash against Stoke City but Gary Megson, the Wednesday boss decided against signing him on a permanent basis.

Instead he's agreed a two-year deal with Wednesday's npower League One rivals after impressing on trial and is set to sign subject to international clearance.

Ironically, Tsoumou could well feature in the Preston attack alongside Owls target Neil Mellor.

Could this mean Preston are about to off-load Mellor in order to recoup some money for him before they lose him on a free next Summer and also to get him off the wage bill, I hear they are desperate to cut costs??

Nice goal Mellor scored @ weekend as wel

SussexOwl, they are desperate to cut costs but Mellor isn't desperate to reduce his wage. That's where the stumbling block is. Just when it looks like we're getting a settled squad, I dont' see any point in bringing someone in on high wages to rock the boat!

I agree The Don, for the first time in about 15 years Wednesday are being run properly and cutting their cloth accordingly so I have no qualms about not signing Mellor or any other player where their wage demands are excessive or outside of the structure now in place. Because we're Wednesday and have MM in charge teams think they can hike a players value and players/agents think they can demand premiership/championship wages. If Mellor really wanted to come (even if it meant a drop in wages) and Wednesday and Preston to agree on a fee it would happen.
