All change for Blackpool cup tie

Wednesdayites can expect to see a number of changes for the Owls' Carling Cup tie with Blackpool at Hillsborough tomorrow night.

Owls boss Gary Megson has told BBC Radio Sheffield that he's set to change his starting eleven for the first round clash - with one eye firmly on Saturday's league match at Bournemouth.

New signing Chris O'Grady is unlikely to feature, but players such as Daniel Jones, James O'Connor and Jon Otsemobor could be given the nod to start.

Wednesday come up against the Cherries in a vital npower League One match on Saturday - just two days after the Owls' League Cup game.

The decision to move the cup game to Thursday night for live Sky television coverage was made easier thanks to a sum of around 100,000 boosting the club's coffers.

With promotion from League One a priority this season, Megson has made Saturday's clash with Bournemouth a priority, something which will show in the starting eleven that takes to the pitch in S6 tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Megson has confirmed that midfielder Giles Coke has returned to training.

I understand: but its disapointing - was looking forward to this one.
good. not really arsed about carling cup...its just a hinderince!
I'd be keen to show our hand in the JP Trophy because our chance of success should be much higher than the Carling Cup. Not too bothere about Thursday, let's just take the money and run!
Nobody is bothered about the Carling Cup anymore.Ian Holloway will field a reserve team as well. Should be scrapped in my opinion.Nobody takes it seriously anymore.

think it's a good plan to be fair the league is definately the priority think there wont be many in the team that played saturday !
Not too surprising really considering he did the same thing with Bolton in the UEFA cup (when they had a decent chance of at least getting to the final!). Personally I think its pretty short sighted myself. If Sky are willing to pay 100k a game for such an early round it shows that there's money there, and we have to be one of the more attractive lower division clubs around for TV coverage.
Yes but benemm, after this round we won't be chosen for coverage because the big boys get introduced. I think it's an ideal opportunity to just take what's on offer. If we end up winning, fine. Hopefully not extra time, that's the last thing we need!
I'd lose in the first round of each cup to pub teams if it meant promotion this season. That's not to say that our players can't do well in both the league and cups, but this early in the season we need to build our momentum up the table. Disappointing, but I think MM has it right. Plus, it gives the non-starters a chance to show what they have.

err... GM, that is

More games = more liklehood for injuries etc and with our squad as it is at the moment that is something we can afford! Happy with this notion to be honest, give some squad players a run and if we win fine but if not we've made 100,000! I'd perhaps give O'Grady a brief run out, say 15 minutes just to give him a good welcome on the cameras and get hm settled before the bigger game against Bournemouth! (Never thought id put bigger game and Bournemouth in the same sentence!!)
Owls That!
*laugh* It has come to this, Owls That!, eh?

Theres no point us entering this competition. Its impossible for a team outside the top flight to win it. I don't think that has happened in the history of the competition.

we won it radon when we were in division 2!

How quickly they forget, eh, Hirsty? :)

Of course i remember I was there. I was the one complaining when 21 April came and went this year without a mention on this site about its 20 year anniversary. I then wound a few united fans up by going on their site and asking how they celebrated the aniversaries of their cup victories. Point is competitions like this are always worth being in. We actually got to the semis about 10 years ago with terry yorath. We were chasing promotionwhen we won, and last year it was worth a place in Europe.

Its also a terrific opportunity to build momentum and a positive atmosphere about the place. Wouldn't it be better to go into the Bournemouth game on the back of a win rather than a defeat? No matter what team we put out. Look at how seriously Mourinho took it. And conversely, look at how getting knocked out of the FA Cup to Man Utd affected Arsenal's form.
radon i had a feeling i was taking the bait! lol

Agree with Owls That, give the squad players a comeptitive run out - if they perform then the better the competition for places. If not, then Meggo will know which areas might need a bit of strengthening/tinkering with in case any injuries do occur. Plus, cash is always king in this modern football era! UTO.
Shame this is our first outing on Sky this season. Would have been nice to have a game that meant something on instead!
New loan signing from fc dender 21 yo Nigerian Daniel uchechi not a clue about anything on this boy anyone know anything
know nothing about him but bet he plays tonight
was just going to write a post about how I am looking forward to seeing some of our squad players getting a run out. Notably Beevers, Reda and Reynolds. Something tells me these three could still have a future. I was also going to say it's a shame we couldn't look forward to seeing an exciting new striker and Meggo pulls it out of the bag. He is quick and has good feet apparently. Looking forward to the game on sky tonight and my trip to Bournemouth this weekend very much!
There's word filtering through of another catch, Chris Lines from Bristol Rovers. Is this just rumour or what? He's a free kick specialist isn't he?
All I know is that is name is Daniel Uchechi!!
This is becoming a bizarre week we clamour for signings and hear nothing then like buses potentially three in a week .. Lines is a tall midfield set piece man so would fit megsons ideal ..
Dan Uchechi has been given 27 shirt so still 2 places 8 and 10 up for grabs, i'd take Chris Lines any day, he's the right age that we are looking for, lets hope it's true.

You should be used to me by noe hirsty - i'm full of it!!
