All change for Blackpool cup tie

All change for Blackpool cup tie

Wednesdayites can expect to see a number of changes for the Owls' Carling Cup tie with Blackpool at Hillsborough tomorrow night.

Owls boss Gary Megson has told BBC Radio Sheffield that he's set to change his starting eleven for the first round clash - with one eye firmly on Saturday's league match at Bournemouth.

New signing Chris O'Grady is unlikely to feature, but players such as Daniel Jones, James O'Connor and Jon Otsemobor could be given the nod to start.

Wednesday come up against the Cherries in a vital npower League One match on Saturday - just two days after the Owls' League Cup game.

The decision to move the cup game to Thursday night for live Sky television coverage was made easier thanks to a sum of around £100,000 boosting the club's coffers.

With promotion from League One a priority this season, Megson has made Saturday's clash with Bournemouth a priority, something which will show in the starting eleven that takes to the pitch in S6 tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Megson has confirmed that midfielder Giles Coke has returned to training.

I'd be keen to show our hand in the JP Trophy because our chance of success should be much higher than the Carling Cup. Not too bothere about Thursday, let's just take the money and run!

Nobody is bothered about the Carling Cup anymore.Ian Holloway will field a reserve team as well. Should be scrapped in my opinion.Nobody takes it seriously anymore.

Not too surprising really considering he did the same thing with Bolton in the UEFA cup (when they had a decent chance of at least getting to the final!). Personally I think its pretty short sighted myself. If Sky are willing to pay £100k a game for such an early round it shows that there's money there, and we have to be one of the more attractive lower division clubs around for TV coverage.

Yes but benemm, after this round we won't be chosen for coverage because the big boys get introduced. I think it's an ideal opportunity to just take what's on offer. If we end up winning, fine. Hopefully not extra time, that's the last thing we need!

I'd lose in the first round of each cup to pub teams if it meant promotion this season. That's not to say that our players can't do well in both the league and cups, but this early in the season we need to build our momentum up the table. Disappointing, but I think MM has it right. Plus, it gives the non-starters a chance to show what they have.
