Owls confirm Lines signing

Wednesday have confirmed the signing of Bristol Rovers midfielder Chris Lines on a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee.

As reported on Vital Wednesday earlier, the 25-year-old has been undergoing a medical in Sheffield today, and the club has confirmed the signing tonight.

Lines told the official SWFC website: 'I was aware of interest in me by Sheffield Wednesday and I couldn't wait to come here and get the deal done.

'I'm keen to get out on the pitch and show the fans what I can do and help get this club back where it belongs.

'I've played against a lot of the lads that are here throughout my career and I know there is a lot of competition, so it will be a good challenge for me here.'

Lines had been on trial with Crystal Palace over the summer but the Eagles decided against offering him a deal at Selhurst Park.

He could go straight into the Owls squad that will travel down to Bournemouth in npower League One on Saturday.

From the lack of comments I'm thinking who?

So we've got two midfielders from clubs that got relegated, Prutton and Lines, hope Gary knows what he's doing :)

Yeh cause the jury's still out on Prutton!!!

From Bristol, my Cousin is a mad Rovers fan. Reckons he is a good signing if we paid nothing for him. I have actually seen him play a couple of times and he looked ok - not the world beater we are hoping for but a decent enough squad player.

In all fairness Rather, Prutton was awful at Swindon last season but he seems to have relished the challenge of playing for us (it's only 1 game I know but I was hoping for the introduction of Prutton at half time last night to get the ball down and play football instead of hoofball). I'm hoping Lines reacts in the same way, relishes the challenge and doesn't want to let the opportunity go begging, which will hopefully be seen with his performances. UTO

Lines cost us £50k according to GM. That's either a snip or the kind of realistic figure Norwich and Rotherham have a struggle trying to grasp.

Wikipedia have him down as wearing the fabled No. 8 shirt - anyone know if this is true?

watched Lines a few times over the last couple of seasons and he seems to fit with Meggo's plans he's 6 foot 1 got a decent eye for a pass doesn't mind tackling and chips in with the odd and it is only odd goal 156 games for bristol 21 goals not sure on assists but i would hope he has a few. all in all a decent signing for me just begs the question of formation as we seem to have 3 new central midfielders that will all want to start and cokey coming back aswell??
wedalways
Not sure if Cokey fits into the GM plan but personally I really like him. I've a feeling that a 5 man midfield is the way GM will go away from home at leat until we have a decent and fit front 2. And then against the challenging sides i think we could still see 5 across the middle away from home. Bournmeouth come into that catergory at the mo.

Owler, he will be wearing 8, yes. I am curious if he'll be any better than Carbone.
RatherRandomOwl
Well he better be bloody good then.
owler
so we could have Lines of Coke in midfield then...

the play on words didn't quite work there grammatically but you see where I'm coming from and I think a point for the effort is deserved too.
