Megson rues missed chances by Owls

Wednesday boss Gary Megson was left to rue his side's missed chances as the Owls went down to a disappointing 2-0 loss at Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Owls failed to maintain their unbeaten start to the season at Dean Court and Megson highlighted the importance of the Cherries grabbing the first goal of the game.

'I'm really disappointed because I thought we started the game well, had more the of ball, and looked the most dangerous,' he told the official SWFC website.

'But we didn't take the chances we created and the first goal is crucial in any game.

'We gifted Bournemouth their first goal with marking that was not like us and then we gifted them their second goal when we switched off and rolled the ball out of play and they scored after the resulting throw in.'

Megson and his Owls squad will now turn their attentions to their next league encounter at Bury in midweek with the aim of returning to winning ways following the south coast setback.

I know almost everyone is in agreement that a godd 20 goal a season striker is a priority, but it must be us fans who have this priority and not the club as it seems The reason I write my comment is that if what I hear is correct that the deal for Mellor collapsed because of a margine of disagreement of £1,000 per week. The team which turned out at Bournmouth did not play Thursday night and could have travelled down to Bournmouth by coach as normal fatique free. So instead of using the £100,000 from Skyto secure the Mellor signing we send the team that played the previous Saturday to the airport and blow the cash on aviation fuel

andymac I know what you mean but.... the decisision isnt just down to having the funds available. A wage structure has to be in place. Remeber Lunt. he was on 8k... how did that happen. I know Mellor is a better player but it's still an example of what happens when the structure falls down.

Missed chances will be the story of the season without a decent striker.

Wad fair point and a reality chack remebering Lunt and many others we have to trust Megson and MM just doesn't add up to me the cost of the flight aginst team rebuilding mind you it could all be tax deductable !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Drop the caveman tactics Megson. We don't create any chances and the ones we do are only half chances.
SheffWed93
Nothing creative in midfield, no threat up front, tactics that would do Dave Bassett proud. I predicted Megson would be out within six weeks but I'll put my hand up and admit I got it wrong... 5 weeks!! Being a Wednesdayite is no qualification for being the Manager. And being a Manager who prefers 'Caveman tacticts' as Shefwed93 says isn't going to attract quality players to the club. The summer proved that!!
