Blackburn fans eye vital cup win
Vital Blackburn Editor Mikey Delap insists Rovers should be taking tonight's Carling Cup clash against Wednesday seriously to help get their season up and running.
The Lancashire club has struggled out of the blocks this season and we got in touch with die-hard Rover Mikey to get his thoughts on tonight's cup clash. This is what he said...
'Whilst many of the clubs up in the heady heights of the Premier League seem to be looking at the Carling Cup and viewing it as a distraction. Something that is merely an obstacle as a strive towards the bigger picture.
'One of those clubs should not be Blackburn Rovers.
'After two games and two defeats in the league tonight's game with Sheffield Wednesday represents a golden chance for Rovers to get back on their game and I don't mean that in a disrespectful manner to Wednesday more that our boys have a home game against a lower league side, which many a neutral will view as a must win for Rovers.
'From a selection point of view it is difficult to see Steve Kean picking a weaker side, I am sure some of the younger lads will see a bit of action but the starting X1 will be the strongest X1 possible I would imagine given the circumstances.
'Rovers you see are in a bit of a pickle and the players need a bit of confidence so chucking the kids onto the pitch when the boss, the owners and the players need a win would just be reckless.
'Rovers also have a few new signings to give game time to - Radosav Petrovic is a big central midfielder who made his debut on Saturday and David Goodwillie (yes, I know quality name isn't it) are both expected to start and with Mauro Formica and Ruben Rochina both likely to be in the starting line up it will be a youthful side, by our usual standards, that takes to the field.
'I hope we're going out to win and I think we will do, Rovers should be taking the Carling Cup seriously as I have always been a big believer in the merits of a good cup run actually helping the league form to a certain extent.
'We haven't been very good so far this season and tonight represents an important game, I expect a win and I certainly hope we do - as a Rovers fan who lives ten minutes from Hillsborough I am in for some serious abuse if we don't!'
