Le Fondre saga to run until bitter end
Wednesday's quest to sign Rotherham United striker Adam Le Fondre took another twist today with Millers boss Andy Scott insisting the Owls are wasting their time in their efforts to sign the hitman.
The Owls saw another bid for Le Fondre turned down this week after they failed to meet the Millers' asking price for their star man, who is out of contract at the end of the season.
And Scott, who is desperate to hold on to the player to aid Rotherham's promotion push from npower League Two, has had a dig at Wednesday in an interview with BBC Radio Sheffield today.
The Millers boss has said Wednesday are wasting their time making offers below their valuation for the 24-year-old.
The new twist comes after reports suggesting the former Stockport County man handed in a transfer request to the Millers less than a week before the close of the current transfer window.
His comments could simply be an effort to make the Owls up their bid before the close of the window next week and help Rotherham get more money for their star player.
But Milan Mandaric, the Wednesday chairman, has already said that he won't pay over the odds for any player. Gary Megson has also revealed that Wednesday have bids in for two 'lower league' players who are in the last year of the contract - and that the Owls will only sign one of the two.
The second player, as yet unknown, could be a back-up if a deal for Le Fondre fails. Wednesday have so far shown the most interest in his services but a number of Championship clubs are also understood to be interested.
Coventry City have been one team linked with Le Fondre, but Rotherham announced their offer as a 'joke bid' in an interview earlier in the week. Barnsley could also be in the race should Danny Haynes move away from Oakwell.

Dont hold your breath Mr Scott.Today he has put in a writtern transfer request so he wants to leave.I know Reading and Coventry are intrested along with us,but lets face it there trophy cabnit is not bursting at the seems.So i belive he wants to stay in Yorkshire but with a massive club like ours,so come on MM lets get this deal done.

£400k plus 'add-ons' is being mentioned at the minute. Unusually Seth Bennett and Rob Staton are being rather quiet today on this. Me thinks theyve been told to not say quite as much as far as ALF is concerned.

While we don't want to pay over the odds I think it would be silly not to get our man in this situation. We need another striker, Le Fondre is scoring for fun and is only 24 his value will probably increase after signing. What is key here though is what psychological benefit it can have on the club. The fans would love this signing, it would also signal to the league and our own players that this club really is going forward. It would give us something to shout about. When have we last splashed out on a forward. Not many teams can do it. If we can afford this striker those fans we repeatedly hear praised who go every week home and away would be getting some reward. Whilst I am happy and positive about the future I just think this would provide a more than just an extra striker. I think this season could be the start of something big and taking in the better players from your local clubs or rivals (O'Grady, ALF, Semedo and last seasons Madine) shows our intent and club size in this league, not just fan numbers.

MM is fine saying he doesn't want to pay over the odds for a player but he did it with Madine and O'Grady in my opinion. When a natural goalscorer comes on the scene he won't pay the £350,000 + £50,000 add ons which is what the Rotherham chairman said he would settle for yesterday in the press!

Now thats either true or its just a smoke screen to fend of the impending *****storm that is going to hit them when he is finally sold to us. Same as any other striker who scores goals for fun,they seem to come to hillsborough and forget how to do it until they leave and sign for another club.Jus want summat sorting asap cos the 2 up front at the moment look like they cudnt get 10 goals between em and im bored of listening to all my m8's who are rotherham fans giving me $hit bout this.So come on we pay up or shut up enough said.zzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

I think MM is dangling the carrot sort of spk and seeing if we can get alf on the cheap! I think the problem is clauses in his contract regarding a sell on fee to rochdale, I'm lead to believe that it's 2/3. Rotherham want a reasonable fee to make some money out of the sale, if they don't get the money they want it's worth more to rotherham to keep him another season and see him go on a free! He would be a great signing, time will tell! UTO FTB

Radon what makes you so confident? Anyone else thinking tomorrow is a big test for us. If we can win 90% of our home games then we will be playoff contenders. If at home we can beat bogey teams like Scunthorpe who have also dropped down a league I think it would really show progress in our team. Keep winning at home and I am sure the results on the road will improve when Megson has sorted his best eleven.

I was pleased to see their game went into extra time last night, plus they got beat at the end of it. No idea whether they fielded a strong side or not but it'd be nice if they roll up tomorrow tired out with their morale dragging on the floor! 3pts would do me although it's about time we hammered someone.
