Owls in talks to sign Lualua

Wednesday boss Gary Megson has confirmed the club is in talks with former Newcastle United and Portsmouth forward Lomana Lualua.

Lualua is a free agent after leaving Cypriot club Omonia and Wednesday, who want to bolster their attacking threat, are keen on his signature.

The 30-year-old attended the Owls' 3-2 victory over Scunthorpe United in League One at Hillsborough on Saturday and discussions between the player and the club are on-going.

'We're just having talks with him to see if we can come to an agreement. That's as far as it's gone,' Megson told the Sheffield Star.

'Milan [Mandaric] knows him from his time at Portsmouth. We're seeing if we can agree something that suits both parties but that hasn't happened yet.'

Wednesday missed out on signing Adam Le Fondre, with the Rotherham United hitman opting for a move to Championship club Reading, and Megson is keen to add more firepower to his squad.

Lualua started his career in England with Colchester United before Newcastle snapped him up. He went on to play for Pompey before having spells in Greece with Olympiakos, Qatar and Cyprus.

This signing would be the difference between us staying in league one or getting promotion. So if it comes off i recon it's better than landing ALF. Who we can sign as a Championship team next season when ALF realises his mistake at joining a small club now.

I think he wouldnt be a good signing and judging by his stats of the last for years pushes more further to my feelings. 20072008 Olympiacos 21 (5) 20082009 Al-Arabi 11 (2) 20092010 Olympiacos 17 (4)

If any of the talk is to be believed then i think Matt Tubbs would be a good signing and as a good scoring record.40 goals in 45 appearances last season for Crawley. And he also want to leave Crawley if a big club come in for him.

How do youncome to that conclusion Kettering? Hrs not had a glistening past few years better players about than him I'm sure. Again a free, don't get this whole scimping on buying a decent player, I understand we've got limits and we don't want to be over the odds but that's the state of football. But if he does pull on the blue and White I'll back him but can't see anything other than a flop!

Hello everyone, i have just returned from a two week holiday in err lets say tenerife. i've just found out that somebody has been logging into my account and making outrageous posts. Don't worry the culprit has now been dealt with. Has anything happened while I've been away? Did we sign that guy from Rotherham. Can't remember his name - think it was Steve Downes.

Matt Tubbs is older than Alf and Cody and only has a record in non league. If we went in for him then fine but we've allowed better options to slip by!

Tubs would be better he'll put 100% in and he's hungry, lualua will be happy on the bench and doesn't really put a shift in or score

Let's not mess about with potential signings and look closer to home. In the past we had Ickabod Hickton-centre half/centre forward, Zico Sterland-right back/ centre forward, Albert Warhurst-centre half centre forward. All managed to score a few when up front. Get Reda trained up to be target man, at least he can use his feet as well as his head and can't do as much damage that far up the park. Even if he does mess up there will always be someone behind him to rectify his mistakes.

We are supposed to be putting abid in for Ryan Lowe of Bury, i know he's 32 but he scored goal's in division 2 last season, and he's scored 7 in 7 this season including 1 against us, i think he'll be a good signing to get us goal's to get us out of this league.

Not really convinced this would b a good signing, I'd question his desire rather than his ability. I think we would be better going for something to prove and a hunger rather than someone who has failed to convince long term at any level.

I dare say there'll be a few surprises in store before Sept.1st and I'm probably wrong, but this just seems like smoke and mirrors somehow. It doesn't add up. We've been told about Meggo's pre-season want list and we know the club's stance on wages and valuations. LuaLua won't have been on the list and given his age and recent career history I can't see him swapping the Mediterranean lifestyle for a winter spent in Sheffield, meeting the demands of lower league football on vastly reduced wages, I don't think that kind of professional integrity exists in sport anymore. I wouldn't say GM's enthusiasm leapt off the page either. It's more likely the work of his agent, alerting other clubs to his client's availability but if other clubs (Huddersfield, Norwich or Preston?) suspect there's any truth to the rumours then it just might strengthen our hand during those twelfth hour negotiations. O'Grady was on the list so I've high hopes for him once he's fit and I think the loan signings are here to see us through to Jan when those original targets might be more accessible. We're assuming ALF was on the list so why did we miss out unless we were never going to compete against Championship wages? Mellor's wages will be hurting PNE and Roberts was only a sub at the weekend. That's where I'm looking. If not by tomorrow, then January. Mystic Maurice has spoken.

Yes, good one! He wouldn't have been on the list either but what the hey! He's the right age, adds competition to a defence that still leaks far too many goals and allows Reda to get in some much needed shooting practice (eh Dooley?) starting at Bratford tonight.
