Wednesday bid for Bury hitman Lowe

Wednesday have made a bid to sign in-form Bury striker Ryan Lowe, according to reports today.

Owls boss Gary Megson is desperate to bolster his attacking options before the close of the transfer window tomorrow and has turned to Lowe, who has already netted seven goals in as many appearances so far this season.

Wednesday have been linked with the striker, who turns 33 next month, for a number of weeks but BBC Radio Sheffield is now reporting an official offer has been made to the Gigg Lane club.

Lowe has played his football career in the lower leagues, starting in non-league, but made a name for himself last season when he helepd Bury to promotion from League Two with 28 goals from 50 appearances.

And he's continued that goalscoring form into League One this season, including one goal when Bury beat Wednesday at Gigg Lane earlier this month.

Bury will be desperate to hang on to their star striker, but at 32, Lowe could well be keen for a move to Hillsborough.

He could join Lomana LuaLua, who is currently in discussions with the Owls over a move to S6, in bolstering Megson's attacking options.

Not paying up for ALF or MacDonald. Goalscorers are always worth a gamble but can't help think this article should be titled 'Lowe Ambition'

Don't understand how we've faffed about in trying to sign decent aged quality goal scorers, and now trying to sign players that will last a season. Anyhow uto.

Arguably our most successful and enjoyable football was played (in recent years) by a team managed by Big Fat Ron. He did not go out and buy young players "Ones for the future" He went out and grabbed proven experienced players to build success today not in the future. We left all that to David Pleat (Wayne Collins etc) I say get the players capable of getting us out of this league then go again.

Lowe is a proven goalscorer, someone who knows where the goal is and puts it away when the chance comes his way, I thought that was what we needed?? it would be great if he was 25 but then other teams would come in for him (ALF is a case in point) and pay more than we're willing to. If we were to land Lowe then I would give him a chance to be a success in the famous blue and white stripes and not write him off before he's even signed or pulled the shirt on for the first time.
