Morrison aims to get in the goals

Wednesday striker Clinton Morrison has promised to get on the goal trail this season after admitting he 'wasn't doing the business' last term.

The former Crystal Palace and Birmingham hitman scored Wednesday's leveller in a 1-1 draw at Charlton Athletic on Monday night minutes after coming off the bench.

He could get his chance in the first team for the next few matches should new signing Ryan Lowe be sidelined through injury alongside fellow new addition Chris O'Grady and Jermaine Johnson.

And he's promised to grab that chance with both hands as he looks to rejuvinate his career at S6.

'I know when I play, when I'm fit, I can score goals,' he told the Sheffield Star.

'I just want to be given a chance. First and foremost, last season I was nowhere near up to scratch. I didn't have a pre-season at all. I wasn't doing the business and didn't deserve to play. I accept that.'

Morrison was the star addition to Wednesday's squad in the summer of 2010 but failed to live up to expectations - as the whole squad did - last season.

But he's off the mark with two goals so far this season and will be looking for more - starting with this weekend's home clash against MK Dons.

Does anyone know how serious Ryan Lowe's injury is?

anyone know if Koumas has got a club yet? Would be a good addition, and I for 1 think we still need another midfielder, especially if playing 5 in midfield.

What’s newsworthy about this interview?? So he finally bags a one that would’ve been harder to miss. And?? The real question is should Megson still be manager of this great football club having made absolutely no progress on the pitch in the 30+ games he’s been in charge. If any of my fellow Wednesdayites think yes, they’re in denial. And it’s not a river in Africa!

Very impressed with Gary Speed's Wales t'other night. They were unclucky. Yet another Manager who unlike clueless Megson understands that the modern game has changed since his beloved kick n rush 80's. You CAN take a bunch of average players (most of the Welsh team don't play in the Premiership) and within a dozen games (not 30!!) instill belief and tactics based on passing, possession football. Good to watch and as all clubs who've been promoted in recent years prove ---- very effective. How can anybody be surprised that the likes of ALF and others just don't want to come and play for a manager who'd rather send players out on 10 mile runs than practice with a ball at their feet. We're gonna get stuffed by the blunts and it makes me sick because it could all have been avoided.

in response to Megson_Out - most of the Welsh team (8 of them) DO play in the Premier League - plus Joe Ledley in the SPL for Celtic - only two of the starting XI - Collison and Blake - play outside the top flight - get your facts right mate

Spiro... and another fact I got wrong is Speed has only been in charge for 7 games compared to Megson's 30+ But then the only fact that matters is that unlike Speed at Wales we've made no progress on the pitch since Megson took over. Fact!

I know I shouldn't rise to the bait but I really can't help myself sometimes. The England-Wales game is an interesting comparison isn't it? The home side burdened by the weight of expectation against rank underdogs with nothing to lose. The result papers over a poor performance that may have improved significantly had Wales actually managed a goal. Wales' record has been so poor of late that their first competitive home win in three years is going to look like progress, but 7 games in international football amounts to a full season and I doubt anyone in charge at the Welsh FA will be getting carried away. They'll have given Speed a contract and would reasonably expect to see steady progress throughout it's course. As for cousin Gary, you'd need to be either blind, blinkered or just plain narrow-minded to deny the progress being made at S6. Seven points out of nine is a good return for a side whose treatment room must be the envy of the division. It wasn't me who said a new manager should be allowed three seasons to build success, but it's an opinion I support. That's long-term success by the way, not flash in the pan success. Well our manager has a three year contract and I hope the club honour it. Besides M_O, you and I can argue till we're blue 'n white in the face, it won't make a blind bit of difference. Thankfully.

Well said Maurice. M_O I am not really sure why you bother. We have done well enough in our first 6 games to be level with the playoffs. We have to improve our away form and if we don't and the results fall at home too I am sure you will get your wish. Mandaric won't tolerate failure. I think there have been improvements and Megson has now had time to make his team. That team now needs to improve because as M_O points out it is all a bit too kick and rush at the moment. I think however we have lacked steel and determination in the past few seasons and that is what Megson has made his premium. Sadly he seems to value O'Connor above Coke because of this but Lines looks like he can play football. I am sure Megson isn't just one dimensional. I think we will improve just not overnight. Having said that we should aim for maximum points out of the rest of the games this month!

Have to agree with you OurMaurice which is becoming all to regular... lol I saw how Megson wanted us to play in pre-season and I think when it eventually is possible the stands will be filled and the doubters will go silent. Fitness had to be critical this season being that last season our team would manage to play 70 out of the 90 while those who we were playing would be playing the entire 90. Megson has pushed the squad so hard and he and we have been so unlucky with injuries early on. Look how we've progressed though we are there or there abouts in the table with a chance to really get back in the mix Saturday. It's not how you start the season it's how you finish it and with the players we have to return that will have the effect of new signings I can see good things happening. Last season we didn't know who our best 11 were and how those would perform match on match. Now there's a recognised starting 11 that Megson hasn't had the chance to play yet that most Owl fans would agree with. We aren't close to our potential yet but I feel we are heading toward it instead of away from it!! Our centre midfield is solid which is why Coke has been sent out on loan to hopefully get match play which he really needs with confidence... if Jesus and Semedo are fit they will play but I don't seen them being the centre pairing for every game over the whole season... at the moment though they are showing what we were missing so much when Potter, Miller and O'Connor were playing last season. If we stay there or there abouts with what we can field at the moment things WILL get better. We have to as a team find the way to play in leauge 1 we didn't do that last season and I think we are making progress... Yes there are times the team resort to *****ing it up field but that's not what Meggo truly wants. The narrowing of the home pitch isn't an indication of not wanting to play football it is a clear marker to the fact that even at home if you try to play championship football in Leauge 1 you will be spanked... Once Megson has got the mix right to play Leauge 1 football he'll get us past the post and out of the Leauge in this I trust. When he does this I will be proud to be Wednesday and proud not to be fickle like so many other fans that will hate him till they hail him as the new messiah. Our team is an improvement this season it's the expectations that are making people frustrated. We fell on our face... we've been picked up, we were crawling... now we are walking/jogging when we get to full pace I think we wont be the "Big Scalp in the Leauge" to the team to be feared home and away. Maybe I'm wrong maybe I'm diluded and maybe a long list of people will tell me this.... BUT... The team is showing heart, they are doing there best and they keep on going... that's improvement in my eyes and as long as we continue on an upward curve my hopes will increase!! Come on Owls fans I know the years have been cruel but our expectations are limiting us... give the squad the clean slate they deserve and give Megson a 100% we are the 12th man and the 13th and 14th we need to be with them not against them!! Hopefully Milan will help Megson and Megson will help the team give us what we so badly want!! RE-IGNITE THE PASSION! It's a new Era for Wednesday but too many are looking back or focussed on the negative... WTID

Y' know, I always thought optimism was an advantage rather than a requirement when describing your average Wednesdayite, even so I'll admit to feeling a shade disappointed by some of the negativity posted here over the past few weeks. If pessimism is an illness then I can't suggest a suitable cure. It's probably terminal anyway. Hope, however, springs eternal and in my glass half full world I see a side who remain within touching distance of the leaders without having the good fortune to either field their strongest eleven or play to their full potential. I'm with you 4eva, it's gonna happen. And it'll happen quicker if everyone pulls togesther. There'll always be room for improvement but in my opinion the only way is up.

Devon_Owl. Have a look what Wilson has done in just 6 games with the blunts. Better still, have a look at Karl Robinson at MK Dons. This is a 30 year old kid ffs who's never been in charge of a club before and only got his licence a year ago!! Both these managers have done good with half the time Megson's had at Wednesday and without Mandy's cash. Look at Barker at Bury. Yeah, stuffed by the Blunts on saturday, but Bury stuffed us just a fortnight ago and with a manager (Barker) who's only been in charge 6 months!! I'll be there again on Saturday despairing with Megson's tactics as we get outplayed by a team that includes Wednesday rejects and managed by a 30 yr old kid with no prior management experience. We've been shocking under Megson and we're gonna stay shocking til he goes. 4evaOWL. I've watched Wednesday 4 times this season and I focus on the negative coz Megson's given us nowt but negative to focus on. wice 4evaOwl, you've been sold this myth that so many other Wednesdayites have been only to eager to lap

Maybe Barker at Bury and this 30year-old 'kid' at MK will go on to have long and successful careers in football management, or perhaps their light will burn brightly and then just fizzle out like so many before them. It doesn't matter. I don't care how green the grass looks on the other side. Neither am I one of those Wednesdayites who wish Bramall Lane would simply blow up and take everything remotely red & white with it. I DON'T CARE. Danny Wilson's doing well at the minute? Great. I still don't care. He sure made a mess of his time with us. We have a manager. A good one. He has a good track record and bags of experience. He has our club's best interests at heart and he'll also take pride in whatever he accomplishes in the time allowed. So M_O, if you feel you're unable to support him then that's your prerogative. If you're unable to keep your one-dimensional views to yourself then I suppose that's our misfortune. But at least wait to see how we're fixed come January before writing the season off altogether.

I am starting a serious campaign against Megson_Out. Mate, you've done nothing positive, all you do is destroy and diminish what others are trying to build. You deserve nothing but disrespect and intolerance, because tolerance shown towards intolerance is as good as intolerance. You are an abomination of a football fan and a pathetic human being. Megson_Out_Out! I have suggested a poll that asks users should we get rid of Megson_Out. I hope I get the support of others and we get rid of this destructive human being.

I haven't been sold a myth and I'm not buying everything I'm told either... I'm basing what I'm saying on what I see and what I've seen. I am a Wednesday fan of only 5 years... and in that time I have watched with the exception of one half decent season in the Championship the downward turn in our clubs fortunes. I don't have a life-time of support behind me like my wife and her family and I don't have the experience of going to cup finals and playing amongst the countries elite. However this is why I remain optamistic I'm basing my observations purely on what I watch week in week out (over just the last 5 years )Starting at the DVS this season... going to Worksop, at watching the Leage games since. This is not the Wednesday of last season but this is also not the Wednesday of the past Glory years either. My optimism is backed up with realism and the realisation that turn-a-rounds the scale of what the Owls required don't happen over night. Ok Megson didn't have the purple patch that new managers often have but he didn't inherit a disfunctional team of quality he came in to rescue our club from a relegation battle with a squad of players that were the remains of what other clubs hadn't poached or we got shot of as we tried to balance the books and who had been whipped for seasons with panic additions that never had a chance to settle. We aren't watching the awful Wednesday of last season and we aren't watching everything that Wednesday is capable of... YET!! UTO I thought I was a football supporter until I came to Hillsborough... I now with pride count myself amongst the faithful being that really I have only watched things going wrong and yet my optimism remains... I'm not going to attack the fabric of our club The team, the manager or the chairman... afterall their ambitions are the same as ours, they however are bound by the realities of the business of football while fans often look at their club very 1 dimensionally... 4evaOWL thanks for becoming a Wednesday fan. Became a fan in the last 5 years.. you must be mental! Megson_Out, you bore me, it must be really miserable for you being a Wednesday fan. Look on the bright side. While there have been crap things at this club, ridiculous debt, Francis Jeffers, Chris Adamson and Leon Clarke. Relegations from the Championship, constant takeover sagas, a 5-1 thrashing from Exeter City and finding ourselves beneath Doncaster Rovers and Barnsley. I can think of loads of crap things that happened but that which doesn't kill you makes you stronger. The club is still here and building. Some of the rubbish that has gone on has actually been funny. It is a game after all. You have to admit things got as bad as they are ever going to get last December. From now on we move forward. The passion for this club is huge. It's not a joke anymore and the fans deserve more. Megson is passionate if a little over the top. I hear he takes players to the Kop to show them just how good it is for the fans. He won't rest until he has as promoted. I don't always agree with his tactics and selections but I have seen improvement. When we have a fully fit squad and they get on a run of good results we could really see some good football this season. If the current players aren't up to it or not doing the business they will get chopped and changed. You look at Beevers and Coke going on loan, good players but they didn't deliver last season. The manager is finding out who performs and is worthy of a shirt by playing football matches. He isn't frightened to change things and I think we will get it right. At least he is focusing on our team not how we are going to contain Yeovil like Father Ted used to. Rafa Benitez often got his team selection and tactics wrong but he won the champions league. Megson_Out when I look at other managers I like to look at what they have actually achieved long term, where they have managed not on whether they have 3 more points currently than the manager who is sleeping with my girlfriend, daugther or whomever it is that has made you so upset!

have to agree with a lot of whats been said, last season is in the past and Megson didnt have much time to change things (but we stayed up -job done ) this season in pre-season, we played some fantastic football but possibly not being able at times to field a full strength side has disrupted the team and style of play, judge him when all the players are fit again or maybe after 10-15 games, not after 6 games with a much weakened team.

Devon_owl... no thanks necessary! I'd fallen out of love with the game totally before I went to my first game at Hillsborough. Everything at the home of the owls and as part of the travelling support is what football should be about!! Wednesday is my Religion and Hillsborough my church. I may be a little mental but not when it comes to the Blue and White. I only truly know now what it is to be a proper fan. Whether on and off the pitch is going brilliantly or awfully Wednesday is my team and will always have my full support! WTID

Hate to say this 4eva, but it sounds like a severe case of Wednesdayitis to me. It's incurable I'm afraid but most of us manage to live with the symptoms without spouting repetitive bull****. Speaking of whom, I reckon RatherRandom's got him running scared! Not sorry, I'd much sooner read heart-warming posts like yours anyday.

How is choosing not to respond to personal abuse "running scared"?? We live in a country where Wednesdayites are free to express opinions whether we agree with em or not. I strongly disagree that Megson has done a good job, but I defend anyone's right to say he has. I even defend the right of anyone to call me an "abomination" and a "pathetic human being". Sounds hysterical to me but anyone who gets off on personal abuse I say good luck to em. I've been following Wednesday home and away for 35 years and will go on for another 35 regardless who's in charge. But I'm one of a growing minority of genuine fans who think Megson talks a good game but has brought nothing but basic tactical errors, a hairdryer, and a boot camp 1980's mentality that kills creative play and deters creative players coming to play for us. We might scrape another result on Saturday against a club that's only been in existance for 8 years with a 30yr old manager in charge for less than half the time Megon's been given and with none of Mandy's money. But if we get outplayed (again) there'll be many more genuine fans like me who won't just sit back and take it. If I say negative things about Megson it's coz Megson serves up negative football. You have to call it as you see it and no amount of personal abuse is going to gag me.

It's my fault, I should've realized before now, humour doesn't translate easily by keyboard. 'Running scared' was meant to be a joke and I thought RatherRandom's post was really funny. So there you have it. Maybe he meant every word, I got it wrong and you (M_O) aren't paranoid after all. Ordinarily I'd recommend all those of you out there suffering from Wednesdayitis to keep taking the Optimism, but you my friend seem like a lost cause. (No joke and no personal abuse intended)

ozzietheowl p@ssed?! What kind of message do you think that sends to our younger supporters?
