Owls crash out of FA Youth Cup

Wednesday crashed out of the FA Youth Cup at the first round proper stage on Tuesday night with a heavy 4-1 loss at Carlisle United.

The Owls will be glad to see the back of Brunton Park - Wednesday's senior side fell to a 3-2 defeat there in the league just seven days before the FA Youth Cup contest.

It took the hosts just seven minutes to open the scoring through Brad Potts and United took a 2-0 lead into half-time when. The game was all-but over just after the hour mark when Jamie Clarey made it 3-0.

Wednesday pulled a goal back with six minutes to go but Carlisle still had the last laugh when they made it 4-1 in the last minute.

Carlisle: Parker, McGlen, Staunch, Morse, Minor, Potts, Todd, Lynch, Symington, Clarey, Beck. Subs - Rule, Berwick, Gwinnutt, Dempsey, Brough.

Wednesday: Wall, Tumilty, Fenwick, Rowbotham, Obileye, Galloway, Ayoola, Dieseruvwe, Tomlinson-Fortam, Husbands, Canham. Subs - Kingston, Dawson, Hague, Moses, Dawes.

This has to be a major concern. We've been told the scouting system was non-existent but coming hot on the heels of that embarrassment at Alfreton, shouldn't there be questions asked about the performance of the academy staff? If these kids represent our future then something's clearly not right.

totally agree ourmaurice. i've got serious concerns about macauley which I've mentioned before on here. we have produced very little in the last 10 years in terms of players and the results of our junior teams are poor overall
