Coke turns down Bury for Owls return

Midfielder Giles Coke has this week returned to Wednesday after completing a loan spell at npower League One rivals Bury.

The Shakers were keen to keep the former Motherwell man and extend his loan deal at Gigg Lane, and Wednesday were set to allow him to stay.

Instead Coke has opted for a return to Hillsborough to try and fight for a first-team spot.

Bury boss Richie Barker told the Bury Times: "I tried as hard as I could, within reason, to get him to stay. But he`d made his decision and he was not going to change his mind. It was a fairly short conversation.

"It was all down to Giles. Sheffied Wednesday were quite happy for him to stay, but he feels that he wants to prove to (manager) Gary Megson that he`s worth a place in the team.'

Coke has kept his options open and would only be too happy to return to Bury if things don't work out at S6 in the coming weeks.]

He made 10 starts for Bury, scoring three goals in the process and generally impressing during his loan stint in Lancashire.

Great news. Hope it works out for him.

This speaks volumes for the strides our club has made during 2011. For the past few years players have bailed out at the least little excuse just to get away Whether Giles can turn Meggo's head remians to be seen but let's take heart from the fact a player want to stay and fight for inclusion. coke in for o'connor anyone??
newman87
no -brainer coke must get infront of o'connor,he has proven his form now and deserves a place in the squad.Competition has hotted up now with prutton, palmer and jj fighting 4 places as well.

of course coke should play instead of o'connor but i don't think megson will see it that way. we have been winning and have been fairly tight with o'connor in the team so why would he drop him?

I like coke - he's got a lot of ability. JJ is a feckin joke - I mean lets be fair when did he last actually contribute with an assist or a goal??? plus he can't be trusted to defend in any way or stay on the pitch! - he's a liability: if you combined the attributes of JJ and JOC you'd have a hell of a player......... Personally I'd like to see Palmer play right hand side with more competition for the role brought in in January. Prutton should be fighting Semedo and Lines for a spot in CM - Competition for places at last!!!

Damn right pads of the Hirst it must be earn't! Which is what Megson has really changed at the Club. Its all about competition for places now! Speaking of which would love to see the Beever return to put some pressure on the centre backs...........

good thing is when coke plays hes gonna give 110% and put in a performance because hes got to. he'll be so determined to earn himself a place. hes a good player and hope he can get back in the mix, scored a few down at bury, hopefully will help us keep pushing for the top

I think that Semedo is getting better and better and since Prutton got injured and Lines came in the centre two have looked much better. I think it's clear the Semedo and Prutton are too alike, for me it's play Jesus (If totally fit) first half instead of JOC being he's been played wide this season and it worked out quite well. Prutton is an intelligent player that few people get past and I think that would allow us to play Bennett if we wanted to. If it's not working out then let Palmer have the second half. Either way we have players that can do a better job than JOC if they give 120% like he does game in game out. I wish that our entire team played with the passion of JOC but he's not physical enough for this leauge and it just seems he runs around a lot. WAWAW

J'OC is always chasing his tail, it's great that he puts in a lot of 'effort' but running around at work to cover up for your own incompetence shouldn't be seen as a positive. Coke, Prutton and Palmer will all put in just as much effort and a more useful performance without making it look so hard! Also all 3 of those out wide would give us a well balanced team. In a strange way JOC's failures as a player are earning him a place, that and the ginger connection. Do Bury want him on loan?

with all that being said... how nice is it for us to actually have options!!!?

it's great that we have competition in the squad players actually wanting to wear the shirt can only be healthy for the club maybe this is why we have been so poor over the years as players knew they would get a game even if they was'nt performing ? Players actually seemed bothered that they are not in the squad that coke has got the right attitude

running around to cover up for his own incompetence? this is a strange comment. football is a game where both teams are going to have spells of possession, when not in possession you need players who are going to pressurise the opposition into giving up the ball. i would say that we doing quite well at this aspect of the game. it doesn't seem to matter how well we do there is always a fall guy, well for me it isn't JOC. i am pleased that we have got some decent competition for places now. the only player who i fail to see anything in is JJ
