Ferguson Interest Re-Surfaces

Owls boss Paul Sturrock is set resurrect his interest in bringing former Everton legend Duncan Ferguson to Hillsborough on a short-term deal according to media reports.

Sturrock has already offered his former team mate a pay-as-you-play deal at Hillsborough which was rejected by the Scot earlier in the summer.

But now Sturrock may resurrect his interest in the striker following an injury crisis which sees Steve Maclean as the only fit striker at the club following the injury to Deon Burton last week.

In an interview with BBC Radio Sheffield last Thursday, Sturrock admitted he may have to have crisis talks with Chairman Dave Allen just one game into the new season.

He said:'Deon's had a tightness but we had the scan as a precaution and it is a tear. It's knocked us back and Steven's toothache means we trained on Thursday with no centre forwards. It's a huge blow to the football club. We will have to discuss things with the chief executive and the chairman.'

The Owls have already had to let striker David Graham go on a six-month loan to League One side Bradford City to fund the loan signing of Middlesbrough's Brad Jones last week.

Marcus Tudgay picked up a freak injury in pre-season which will keep him out for two months, and youngsters Drew Talbot and Barry Corr are also sidelined through injury.

Paul Jewell's Wigan Athletic are also reportedly interested in offering Ferguson a short-team deal.

Good luck in signing him, he's not going to be cheap. St Mirren tried to lure him back up to Scotland but were put off by his £20,000 per week wage demands.

£20,000 a week is that what he really asked for? I'd expect us to pay no more than £5,000 a week for anyone!

its a bit much for an old player.

I can't remember where I read it was £20,000 per week but I did read it. I think it was one of the newspapers up here.

Unless KPS really puts the thumbscrews on Allen, I don't see it coming off. Or maybe the Scottish Mafia can sort something out!

£20,000 a week, the average wage for a prem player is £18,000 (that while playing in the prem!!) he will be luckey to get £20k a month.
