Madine set for six weeks out injured

Wednesday have suffered a big blow this week with the news that top-scorer Gary Madine will be sidelined after a broken toe.

Madine suffered the injury in Wednesday's 2-1 win at Tranmere Rovers on Saturday, leaving the pitch at half-time to be replaced by Ryan Lowe, who went on to score the Owls' winner.

The former Carlisle United man had a scan on the injury on Saturday and they revealed that his toe is broken, meaning he's unlikely to feature again until the turn of the year.

The set-back means Owls boss Gary Megson will turn to the loan transfer window to plug the gap left by Madine - but he needs to be quick with the window closing tomorrow.

'Losing Gary for six weeks with a broken toe is a blow,' Megson told the official SWFC website.

'I've been given the go-ahead to try to get a centre forward, which we're trying to do.

'Sometimes you have to take a player who can do a job in either of two positions.'

More bad news comes for Wednesday in the shape of an injury to Lewis Buxton, who is also set for a spell of around a month on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

Megson has already brought in Newcastle United youngster James Tavernier to fill-in for Buxton, while Miguel Llera has joined from Blackpool on-loan to help cover in central defence, with skipper Rob Jones suspended this weekend and having problems with a nose injury.

Sad to see Madine injured, but the key point here is that he wasn't scoring goals before we got Marshall in. Midfield is the key to our promotion.

? Changed his name by deedpoll to Leon Madine?? Seriously though he will be missed as he has become a bit of a talisman for us so far this season. Just hope the light bulb fills his shoes gets some experience with us before going back to Arsenal
