Sanchez Watt set to plug Madine gap

Wednesday are set to plug the gap left by the injured Gary Madine by signing Arsenal starlet Sanchez Watt on loan until January, according to reports.

The news that top-scorer Madine will be out for six weeks with a toe injury has prompted Owls boss Gary Megson to search the loan market for a replacement before tomorrow's deadline passes, and Watt is understood to be top of his list.

Watt was hoping to play some part in Arsenal's first team this season but has been unable to break into Arsene Wenger's plans, meaning the Gunners are keen to give him first team football experience away from the Emirates Stadium.

He spent last season on-loan at Leeds United and scored one league goal in 22 league appearances for the club. The youngster is held in high regard at Arsenal and has recently been handed a new contract with the club.

If a deal brings Watt to Hillsborough, the Owls are understood to have beaten off competition from a number of other Football League clubs for his services.

Watt has pace and can play out wide as well as in a central attacking role, something which Megson will no doubt have taken on board when weighing up his options for a new loan player.

Hmm, just when I was thinking GM might go back for McGoldrick. His hand is being forced due to the loan deadline. I'd assume he'd go with Lowe and O'Grady anyway but what's the limit regarding the number of loan players in a matchday squad, 4 or 5? We'll have Marshall and Batth. Tavernier in for Buxton, Llera in for Jones. Add another forward and it's bye-bye Bywaters.

We can't sign anybody till January.

Spot on ecco. GM clearly thinks he needs a player as cover against further injuries and it's now or wait until January. Clinton obviously doesn't count and as much as owler rates this young fella it'd be no good bringing in someone who'd expect to get selected for the side regardless and who's likely to sulk if he gets left out. I just thought McGoldrick showed a good attitude throughout his brief stay and he hasn't figured for Forest since his return. It's all academic anyway, Meggo knows what he's up to.

Massive signing!!! Just what we needed - real pace, work rate and end product. Hopefully we can get shot of jj now.

Great work by all at the club. Superb to see 3 players arriving at a crucial time.
