RIP Gary Speed

RIP Gary Speed

Wales manager Gary Speed has been found dead in his home at the age of 42, the Football Association of Wales has announced.

Speed made his name a a player with Leeds United, Everton, Newcastle United, Bolton Wanderers and then our neighbours Sheffield United, where he went on to take his first managerial job.

He went on to achieve his dream of managing his home country, and was doing a fine job of transforming the team before his untimely death today.

Although he had no ties with Wednesday, and was a legend with Yorkshire rivals Leeds United and player-manager across the city, Speed was a player admired throughout British football.

A really humbling event which puts things into perspective. A man who seemingly had everything including a family taking his own life. My heart goes out to his family as they try to cope and make sense of what has happened. A tremendously sad day.

RIP Speedo. Probably THE player I think of when I think back to the Premier League

When something like this happens nothing else seems important. would be nice if both clubs could pay there respects and some kind of tribute done at the next derby.

Today is a very, very sad day for football, an extremely accomplished player and manager, my heart goes out to his family and friends. Just a pity that our rivals on Vitalblunt haven't even started a thread for ALL true football fans to post their messages and forward these to Gary's distraught and bewildered family in the slim hope that our words may prove of some miniscule comfort at their great and sad loss

Watched him on football focus Saturday laughing with Gary McAllister then a few hours later he's hanging himself, my heart goes out to his friends and family especially his wife and two sons left behind. He must have been in a pretty dark place to do that, very very sad. A lot of modern day footballers could learn a thing or two from the professional way Gary conducted himself though his career, a bright managerial career was ahead of him as well.
