Huddersfield to rival Owls for Marshall

Wednesday's npower League One rivals Huddersfield Town are understood to be keen on snatching winger Ben Marshall on a permanent deal in January.

Marshall has impressed while on a loan spell at Hillsborough from Stoke City so far this season and Owls boss Gary Megson is thought to be keen on making the deal a permanent one when the transfer window opens back up in January.

Wednesday are, however, set to face competition for his signature, with Town boss Lee Clark also impressed with the youngster and keen to make him a Terrier come the new year.

A fee of around 500,000 has been reported as enough to sign Marshall, although it's not yet been confirmed by Stoke if he's even up for sale.

Marshall's good form has also been so good that Championship clubs could come in for the winger, something that would be a bigger threat to the Owls keeping him than Huddersfield coming in with a bid.

Marshall is enjoying life at Hillsborough and would be expected to choose the Owls over the Terriers if both sides were to have offers accepted for his services.

I thought the threat is just to lose him. Now it's getting stupid, losing him to Huddersfield would be the worst thing possible. C'mon Milan, where's 20 mil, there's 20.5 mil

I don't think Huddersfield really pose any threat, other than to bump up the price. I'm sure Ben would chose Wednesday if he was given the choice and all things were equal. Milan has already backed GM and recently vowed to do so again in January so that shouldn't be an issue either. Its the interest from Championship clubs that might make the difference. All the same, if we're still in second in Jan and look like we have a real chance of going up then Ben might still see Wednesday as a better bet. Whatever happens its looking more like he won't be a Stoke player for much longer.

I hope we sign him permanently. Megson does know how important he is and he does have a soft spot for him, he doesn't call him Marshie for nothing. Fingers crossed.

The idea that Huddersfield could snatch him away from under our noses is frankly laughable. What's less funny though is that Stoke might prefer to sit back and allow interested parties to outbid one another. IF Championship clubs are sniffing about and IF wages become an issue then we might as well get used to the idea 'Marshie' could be playing elsewhere come January (but it won't be Huddersfield!).

I fear the Terriers won't be our main threat as Premier and Championship clubs keep a sneeky eye on our Benny Boy. I'm hoping GM's ties with TP and Stoke will prove invaluable. Inevitably money talks and MM won't be pushed too far as we've seen in the past. What will be, will be and come the end of January we will know the fate of OUR wing ace Ben Marshall. Hope we get him. Looking forward to seeing Sanchez Watt too. Having good young players on loan is great but would love to make some permanent. Haven't made it to many games lately, how is Lines doing? I saw him against Bournemouth and although we were awful I thought he showed potential
