Owls linked with Preston striker Hume

Wednesday have been linked with a move for Preston North End striker Iain Hume in the January transfer window..

The Owls are thought to be one of a number of clubs, including League One rivals Huddersfield Town, to be keen on the services of the former Leicester City and Barnsley man, according to Skysports.com.

It's the second time in a week the Owls and the Terriers have been linked with the same player, with Wednesday's on-loan winger Ben Marshall attracting the interest of both club's on a permanent deal in the New Year.

Hume has netted six goals for the Deepdale club so far in a disappointing campaign for the Lilywhite, but has suffered injuries along the way.

Preston are understood to be keen to hang on to the former Tranmere Rovers man but Wednesday and Town have the financial clout to force North End's hand.

While Megson has done brilliantly in the transfer market this season I can't see why he would want to sign a striker who has been struggling with injuries and is no better than our current crop of players. Just rumours I presume
Devon_Owl
Agreed Devon_Owl, the rumours will come in thick and fast from now on. We'd all expect to see some speculation linking us with PNE sooner or later, but not with this fella. Smoke & Mirrors? Maybe we're having a dig at Huddersfield, or maybe Sky are having a slow news day.

Madine to Norwich 1.5m thats probably why we are loking at other strikers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
andymac-scoresagoal
Yep, andymac- That's another one doing the rounds. There was also another link with Neil Mellor in the same breath so we'll just have to wait and see. Then there's Marshall, Batth & Bywater, maybe we need to generate some cash first. Whatever happens, GM knows what he's doing.
OurMaurice
Can't help but feel that both this and the Madine to Norwich rumours are a load of rubbish.
Carbone's Padawan
This would have to go down in the BAD signing book if it was true with all the other crap we signed in the past.

How much did Milan Spend last jan? Reda, Madine, Reynolds, M Morrison were there anymore?? Got to be close to a million. Would our 3 loan players cost us a million? Is Marshall worth 1.5 million with less than a yr on his contract? A lot of questions I know!
Bognor_Owl
Milan spent heavy last Jan and increased the wage bill significantly... he may not wish to do that again this time round!! However I think it's likely he'll do exactly that as in the last 12 months things have changed dramatically. Think he has a great deal more confidence that the money spent this time will be spent well and isn't to patch up the squad but improve it for a focussed push for promotion. I for one think if we are taking it seriously that Madine will stay with the three being talked about being converted from Loans to Wednesday players. I can see Chris and Clinton on their way maybe with one or two others to free funds and some of the current loan signings having extensions to the end of the season. IMMIT UTO

Megson said in Sheffield Star that hes not interested in Hume so dont know where this story has come from.

This kind of speculation is always going to happen, but I'd like to see Meggo telling the local media Gary Madine is staying put.
