O'Connor to leave Owls for USA

Wednesday midfielder James O'Connor is set to leave Hillsborough to take up a coaching position at a Major League Soccer (MLS) club.

The former Burnley man has played the majority of games for the Owls this season but is reported to have played his last, with the Dubliner expected to leave the club within the next few days.

O'Connor has missed the last three games and is out-of-contract in the summer, prompting him to take his career to the US in time for the start of the next MLS campaign.

His destination in the US is currently unknown but O'Connor is understood to have held talks with Wednesday boss Gary Megson recently about leaving the club.

The 32-year-old has played over 120 games for the Owls since making the switch to S6 on a free transfer from Burnley in the summer of 2008.

Not alot to get upset about and i wont shed a tear, but this guy gave 100 percent at all times. Was not the worst to wear the blue and white shirt, and will in doubt not be the last. Good luck James but i think as we are moving in the right direction your days were numbered.

What a shame Brentford's goalie saved that overhead kick! Might not have been enough to propel him to 'legend' status but it would have added a touch of glory and a fitting end to his career at Hillsborough. A player who never gave less than 100%. All the best James!

Good luck JOC. Played 120 games for us,not blessed with great ability but always put 100% effort in and a good shift(unlike some others I could mention). All the best.

good luck james, hope we don't miss you! i thought he received a lot of undeserved criticism. he was signed for his style of play and each manager here picked him so from that all you can deduce is that he was doing what was wanted of him.

Must buy new midfielder now. We should be getting a compensation for his departure and we should use it to strengthen. Good luck, JOC.

By the way, he can definitely pull it off as a player/coach in MSL. No need to coach players who are worse footballers than him.

Just a shame some Wednesday fans did'nt give you 100% backing, because you always gave yours, hope your new venture bring you lots of success, thanks and all the best.

If this rumour is true the I wish Joc all the best with his new venture. A true gent and a work horse....

Nigeria Under-23 international, Daniel Uchechi has revealed he cannot wait to return to parent club Leicester City after his loan deal to Sheffield Wednesday expires this winter. Uchechi, who netted two goals at the recent CAF U-23 Championship in Morocco with Nigeria’s Dream Team V, joined English Nationwide team Wednesday at the beginning of the season. However, the former Flying Eagles star said he has been most frustrated by the long ball tactics at the Nationwide League side. “I can’t wait to return to Leicester City. I just cannot adapt to the style of play here. It’s the typical English football,” the skilful forward told MTNFootball.com He also admitted that life in the Nationwide League has been difficulty. “Life here has not been very easy. Adapting to the style of play have been very challenging but so far I has been able to cope.”

interesting carbone. he isn't suited to the way we play, probably a bit of sour grapes but he isn't miles away with his verdict!

uchechi isnt sited to the way ANYBODY plays because he is gash

Great lad, who gave it his all. Thanks for putting your all into the Blue and White, and welcome to this side of the pond. Wishing you all the best in your coaching career; if you give as much into that as you did into your play at Wednesday, I"m sure that you'll do fine!

players with far more ability have given far less in a Wednesday shirt over the years so JOC has nothing to be ashamed of despite some moronic fans criticising him or wanting him out the club. He had his limitations as a player which I'm sure he knew but always gave his all everytime he crossed the white line for which all owls fans must admit and be grateful for.
