Weaver set for return in Leeds friendly

Long-term injury absentee Nicky Weaver is set to make his first appearance in an Owls shirt for almost four months in a behind-closed-doors game at Leeds United today.

The 32-year-old has been sidelined with a knee injury and hasn't played since a brief appearance for Wednesday in their Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat at Bradford City at the end of August.

Derby County stopper Stephen Bywater arrived at Hillsborough on-loan to cover for Weaver but with the 4-4 draw against Huddersfield Town last weekend being Bywater's last, Owls boss Gary Megson will be eager to see if Weaver is ready for a return in the Boxing Day trip to Walsall.

If not, Richard O'Donnell will get the nod to start at the Bescot Stadium and also at Deepdale against Preston North End on New Year's Eve.

Megson is still keen to try and bring Bywater back to S6 on a permanent deal when the transfer window opens back up in January and competition is set to be high for the number one jersey.

More great news and whatever happens elsewhere having our No.1 fully fit again can only be good for all concerned.

I am sorry but don't actually rate Weaver. I think during our horrid spell last season he was terrible. Rather see O Donnell in goal. Just my opinion sorry.

i hear you james, i thought his positioning at times was miles away but this was when he'd been made captain and perhaps he was distracted with trying to keep that shambolic back 4 together. hopefully he won't have that responsibility again so can concentrate on goal keeping!
