Megson targets Miguel Llera deal

Wednesday boss Gary Megson has confirmed his desire to sign Blackpool's Spanish centre-back Miguel Llera on a permanent deal this month.

Llera, who spent the first part of the season on-loan at Brentford, enjoyed a one-month loan stint at Wednesday over the festive period but played his last match in Wednesday's 2-1 win over Tranmere Rovers on Monday.

He's returned to Bloomfield Road but is seemingly surplus to requirements at the Championship club and Megson is keen to bring him back to S6.

Megson told the Sheffield Star: 'In the last two games he`s done really well for us.

'I think Miguel wants to get himself under contract somewhere and he seems to think he`s going to be able to get a free transfer from Blackpool.

'I've recommended to Paul Aldridge [Owls vice-chairman] and Milan Mandaric [chairman] that we try to get it done.'

Megson's preferred centre-back pairing is Danny Batth, who's signed on-loan from Wolves until the end of the season, and captain Rob Jones.

But Jones has missed a few games through various injuries of late and, although Mark Beevers has returned from a loan spell at MK Dons, Megson is keen to bolster his defensive options.

He's good enough so if the deal is good for us "Sign him up!" He plays in Jones position well I only wish he could head the ball like Rob. Headers clear often go wide and short and don't relieve the pressure unlike Robs that a lot of the time go clear into the other half of the pitch. UTO

He has the ability as well as the attitude needed to provide solid cover. Age = Experience in my book. His presence around the place is probably good for Semedo too. It's a win-win scenario.

agreed get the lad signed up we need experiance in the side if we are to go up

I see no problems with this and another experienced head around the place could be key with the business end of the season not far away!

i like a few cheeky johnny foreigners around the place, makes us seem more international and glamorous

I remember when we were FULL of foreigners/internationals! Ingersson, Petrescu, Thome, Alexanderson, Sibon, Carbone, Di Canio even De Piedi (always a hero for THAT goal)....but fair play we have probably had some of the worst imports the Premier League ever saw...De Bilde, Degryse and of course Win Jonk, christ we bought some absolute chaff!!

And here we all are, 10-15 years later. Who said we wouldn't look back on all that and laugh!

Foreign winger foreign winger! All positive but I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to see Mark Beevers getting back into the team. My best back four would be Johnson-Beevers-Jones-Buxton I believe Batth and Llera to be much of a muchness. Although I class that as a promotion winning muchness and I am just showing a bit of bias to an academy player. In Megson we trust. It would just be nice to take one of our own up with us. I don't think the revival will stop in the championship! 2012 is going to be a great year!
