Owls fans want cash spent on wingers

The latest Vital Sheffield Wednesday poll asked which position Owls boss Gary Megson should focus his attention on to strengthen in the January transfer window - and the results are in.

We gave Vital users six options - goalkeeper, full-back, centre-back, central midfield, wingers and strikers - and asked you to pick just one area that most needs strengthening this month as the Owls look to maintain their push for promotion.

The winner, by a country mile, was winger with a whopping 69 per cent of the vote.

Ben Marshall has been doing superbly well for the Owls since his loan move from Stoke City but, whether the wing wizard remains at Hillsborough beyond his initial spell or not, Owls fans think a new winger is required at S6.

James Tavernier, also on-loan, has been playing on the right side of midfield recently, with James O'Connor, predominantly a battling central midfield, played in that position before his injury and departure.

Huddersfield Town's Gary Roberts is one name linked with a move to Wednesday, while Megson will no doubt have a 'wanted list' in place for January.

In second place was a striker, with ten percent, while both goalkeeper and central midfielder received nine per cent of voting. The Owls have since snapped up Stephen Bywater on a deal until the end of the season, ending the need for a stopper.

The Owls are expected to be busy in the transfer market this month - with players leaving and arriving. Visit Vital Sheffield Wednesday for all the latest news.

As said we need a winger whatever happens to Marshall. Like tarvernier on the right but still need a more attacking threat that can unlock defences imo

@wads Wiggle - We have signed him on a full contract, but I believe that it is only until the end of the season.
