Toon block Tavernier loan extension
Hot prospect James Tavernier has returned to parent club Newcastle United after Alan Pardew rejected the Owls' offer to extend his loan spell at Hillsborough.
Tavernier had been making a positive impression on Wednesday boss Gary Megson and Wednesdayites alike for his performances in the famous blue and white stripes.
But the Premier League club has rejected approaches from the Owls to extend his loan stint because Megson has been playing the player on the right wing rather than right-back, where the Geordies want to hone his skills.
Tavernier played his first game for Wednesday in his usual right-back position but switched him to play on the wing in recent matches - where he excelled.
With Jon Otsemobor returning to action following injury and Lewis Buxton also expected to return shortly, Tavernier would be surplus to requirements at full-back.
It does mean, however, that Megson will up his search for a new winger.
