Toon block Tavernier loan extension

Hot prospect James Tavernier has returned to parent club Newcastle United after Alan Pardew rejected the Owls' offer to extend his loan spell at Hillsborough.

Tavernier had been making a positive impression on Wednesday boss Gary Megson and Wednesdayites alike for his performances in the famous blue and white stripes.

But the Premier League club has rejected approaches from the Owls to extend his loan stint because Megson has been playing the player on the right wing rather than right-back, where the Geordies want to hone his skills.

Tavernier played his first game for Wednesday in his usual right-back position but switched him to play on the wing in recent matches - where he excelled.

With Jon Otsemobor returning to action following injury and Lewis Buxton also expected to return shortly, Tavernier would be surplus to requirements at full-back.

It does mean, however, that Megson will up his search for a new winger.

Never liked Pardew to start with, but I was under the impression we were paying Newcastle for the privilege of providing valuable experience and aiding their player's development. So what gives him the right to dictate to us who we should pick and where they should play? Arrogant prat! It's because we beat West Ham, isn't it?

Yes i know what you mean our maurice, he's got a face like a slapped back side, would'nt want to work under him, feel sorry for young lad, seemed to be doing a good job at right side of midfield, but you can't please everybody.

Cant believe Charlton have signed Leon Clarke til end of season, bet its cos they playing us and hoping he will score against us lol.

He's a Newcastle player so if Pardew doesn't want to extend the loan that's his decision. Personally, we'd be better off now looking for a wide midfielder to play on the right rather than a defender. Why we don't look at Chris Taylor from Oldham is beyond me - he's quality!

I think we would all agree that if we could sign Roberts and Marshall we'd all be feeling a little faint at first until the beaming grins broke out from ear to ear!! Quality wingers are what we need... haven't said this in many seasons but in every other position I think we have adequate if not more than adequate for the leauge we are in. Not only the fans deserve further investment but so do the players, the squad is getting stronger and stronger but our quality winger shortage is what is needed to stop keeping up and start setting the pace. In regards to James Tavernier I think Newcastle are within their rites to request their player to be played in the position that they want the player for, I would think when we loan players we have the same expectations. Having said that... I don't think we'd get out of our tree if the loan player didn't play in the position we requested as I'd rather see experimentation in someone elses team rather than ours. Think Pardew is being a bit of a SH*T but this is what happens when we are relying on other peoples players. Get some wingers signed up as Wednesday players please Milan... IMMIT

The bigger clubs send their young players out to gain experience. Older players probably find themselves out on loan because they're out of the side and their wages are too high to have 'em sat around moaning about it. Lower league clubs benefit by drafting in (at a price!) a player of a higher quality than those already on the books. Not everybody agrees with the system but it's plain to see why the clubs favour it. My opinion is (in this situation), GM thinks Tav's presence is beneficial to his squad. He's trying to secure the loan of a player, an individual, not a right back. Of course, Newcastle are well within their rights to refuse, but unless Pardew thinks that by playing him out of position he's going to return to Tyneside a gibbering wreck whose career is now in ruins I really can't see the problem. The player needs experience? Come and get it. Who knows, we might be adding another useful string to his bow, and Newcastle might prosper as a result. Or maybe it's because Pardew hadn't thought of it first. Grrr...

Don't think I've seen this mift before OurMaurice... this has got to you?? I agree (as usual) match play and training with our squad must be better for him than not getting a match at St Jame's where ever he plays on the park. Take heart thought what do the black and white know about a players best position remember they sould Carol as a striker!! (When crossing guard may have been more appropriate) lol UTO

I actually quite liked the look of having two right backs on the pitch lets face it they were as both as good at defending as attacking and made the right balance. Who knows what the next few weeks will bring... the winger issue has a way to run!! Sounds like a big crowd Saturday to show the fans appreciation of the 20yr old Ben 10 if it is to be his last game with us!... (Really hope it's not!) UTO

I read an article recently in one of the daily rags, Alan Smith asked Pardew why he was neither in contention for the first team nor being allowed to leave Newcastle. Confucius replied (along the lines of) it being one of those things to do with football he (Smith) would never understand. Perhaps the subtle differences between playing at right back, wide right or as a wing back is another one.

According to Sky Sports Mike Jones of Bury is having a medical at Hillsborough now.

To be honest not that bothered really, cause palmer can do his job if needed, also would like palmer to get more 1st team action

Surely the lad will benefit more from playing on the "polish the bench" position rather than the right wing position, well done Newcastle.
