Owls fans shocked by Megson sacking

The Vital Wednesday forum was in overdrive following the news of Gary Megson's sacking as Owls boss, with shock being the most obvious emotion amongst members.

Megson got the boot on Wednesday night, less than four days after leading the Owls to a memorable 1-0 Steel City Derby victory over old foes Sheffield United.

Rumours over the uncertainty of Megson's future at Hillsborough had circulated last week after a disappointing run of results.

But those rumours seemingly disappeared following a derby success that lifted a negative mood around S6 to a positive one.

Still, Owls chairman Milan Mandaric has made his decision and Megson is no longer in charge of the club he adores.

Here's what the Vital Wednesday forum members thought of the decision.

homerj: My god back to the days of unstability what is wrong with the footballing world, sacking managers who have got teams into the playoff places

East_Yorks_Owl: WTF! Who has he got lined up for the job? I can't believe this.

gudetehowl: Absolutely disgusted. Tempted to cancel my season ticket next season. Cannot believe it.

Disgruntled Owl: Genuinely upset by this. Megson actually felt like one of our own. In a lot of ways, I don't want us to go up because it just wouldn't feel right. Not that that is going to be a problem, as we haven't got a hope now.

Sync: If you'd have said I'd be this annoyed to see Megson sacked when we first got him I'd have laughed you away. Shows what I think of the job he has done. We lost 4 games in a row - we were second before those 4 games. Even if it is a results based decision it's a terrible one.

will it ever happen: I reckon that Megson and the players knew it was going to be his last game on Sunday. The celebrations said a lot on Sunday after the goal.

wedalways: shocking MM sticks with Irvine till the end of a transfer window when things were looking really bad but can't give Meggo till the end of the season.

spiro theocropolis: thing is - it's stupid grandstanding by Mandaric. judging by the comments on here - it would have been far more accepted if MM had sacked Megson this time last week. MM must have made his mind up by then - he's just showing his authority by showing he can sack GM - even after a huge derby victory. showing he can do what he wants - no matter what the fans think.

mick66owl: GUTTED.

TheMightyBoosh: As much as I wasn't a fan of Megson in the first place he has clearly got us going in the right direction. If we don't go up this season then MM can have nobody to blame but himself. Not only did he bring in GM in the first place but he then chooses a strange time to sack his manager, even if results of late (apart from Sunday) had started to slip.

kpfclad: Why do you think Mourinho flew in yesterday, he was rumoured to be house hunting in Belgravia....it was in fact Belhouse Road in Firth Park.........and he's put an offer in for one !!!

Gutted, just gutted. I genuinely thought Gary was the man for the long run.

Be glad we have an ambitious owner with the balls to take unpopular decisions to move this mighty club onwards and upwards, although he should never have appointed Megson in the first place! Let’s hope his successor brings a style of footie and tactics other teams like Stevenage and Chesterfield won’t find so easy to exploit! WTID

Yet another predictable comment from Megson_Out. Anyway I wish GM all the best - along with the vast majority of Owls fans. I just hope he remembers to pay tax on any payoff from our Chairman - unlike some we could name!!!

Well we all knew there would be at least one voice of acceptance and joy in regards to Milan's decision. Megson was only 6 points shy of his 2 points a game ratio and he would have secured us a play-off place. We have a squad set to play a certain way so what is it that a new manager can really do?? They will have the chance to make 2 loan signings possibly but that is it.... I know that I've not millions invested in the club and so it's easy for me to say he should have been given till the summer at least. I just hope that this decision doesn't back-fire and wreck the progress we've clearly made with the limited funds Megson had. This season afterall has a sales and purchase balance for the club of only just over 100k while teams like Charlton brought in 20 players in the summer. IMMIT (but that trust has been shaken severly!) WTID and at least we have the joy of a user name change soon enough... Jones_out??? Clarke_out??? Shearer_out (lol) Paolo_in???? All that being said... you can take his job away but you can't take the memory of him managing "HIS" club to a derby win... Good luck Meggo I for one am sorry to see you go, what you achieved in such a short time with your hands tied was as good as anyone could've hoped and you will be missed!! UTO
