The top-two gap's set at two points

Sheffield United's 1-1 draw at Colchester United has left Wednesday just two points behind the Blades and second place with both sides having played the same number of games.

The Blades played their final game-in-hand on Wednesday tonight and could only manage a point against the U's. Will Hoskins had given Danny Wilson's men the lead but Steve Gillespie levelled to give the hosts a share of the spoils.

It means a tense 'business end' to the season is set to unfold, if it wasn't already, with both Sheffield clubs, as well as Huddersfield Town and MK Dons, all pushing for that second automatic promotion spot, with Charlton Athletic seemingly set for the title.

Wednesday return to action at sixth-placed Notts County this weekend while United are at home against Tranmere Rovers.

Starting to look better, good even; but, yes, we very definitely need three points on Saturday. Providing the gap isn't enormous, I reckon in sport it's easier to hold your nerve chasing than staying just ahead, providing you don't run out of time.

They were all ringing Radio Sheff 3 weeks ago claiming to have already bagged automatic promotion! Now they're lookin at the run in and wishin they had ours! O'Grady to start for Madine for me...toughest test so far this season and I'd take a draw. WTID

Meson_out. You can't change a winning team, therefore it's Madine all the way.

.... If Dave did change the team and got the points how many people would say "you can't change a winning team!?" I think Dave has realised that O'Grady is a spear-point striker to take advantage of his hold up play and allow midfield to push on or play a striker in the hole instead of playing Madine goal side of him which was proving less and less sucessful... (This is also known as plan "A") I personally would like to see the starting 11 remain unchanged to see if we can take our new style of play on the road. But I wouldn't be surprised with that change being made... the reason our progress has faltered in recent months is we didn't change our play and well organised teams exploited that with quality preperation. You can't have two really good results and assume that if you play the same way you are going to win by 3 clear goals everytime you take the pitch. Reads like I almost agree with Megson_out doesn't it??? Oh hell OurMaurice wont be pleased!!! lol WTID

That's alright, Jason love. 'Dave' had 80minutes last week to figure out a Plan B and he's had all this week to make it work. Three early goals is one helluva way to paper over the cracks but I doubt we'll be so lucky (lucky-lucky-lucky) I doubt we'll be so lucky on Saturday.

Actually, I'm more of a Frank Zappa man. So you've lost me there I'm afraid. Now if you want me to amend the lyrics to 'Thing-Fish'...

Zappa is a little before my time and I have to say Kylie isn't up there with my musical greats either... I've had a go with Kylie (I should be so lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky!) think it's only fair you give 'Thing-Fish' a go ;o) lol

I was always a fan of Zappa's 'the dangerous kitchen' which is what I feel we are entering into at the moment. Do you tinker with the team? I can't see O'Grady coming in on Saturday following staying on the bench for the whole of the Bournemouth game, but I could be wrong. I really hope we can get a result here and I think we should go for it. We have a very similar run-in to Sheffield United and they play Notts County on tues. I think it's going to go right to the wire. For me there are no obvious changes to make. I would like to see Bostock or the forgotten man Palmer on the bench. Really believe they have something to offer. Whether this is the time for them I'm not sure. I still expect some personnel changes before the end of the season but Saturday doesn't strike me as the day to start.

I don't think a point against Notts County will be the end of our automatic chances even if united win. I'm sure there are going to be twists and turns left in the remaining games. All the same, if we do beat county then it will make life much harder for united because county will go all out against them to keep their play-offs hope alive because they can't afford 0 points from 6 at this stage of thier season. So if we win I reckon that's a win, win.

Scene one - steamy back kitchen. Mrs. M_O attends to a saucepan bubbling on the stove. Door swings open. Enter her husband who aims a misdirected kick at the family whippet, uses his flat cap to swat the pigeons off the dining table and then pulls out a chair. "You're in a good mood." she observes. "Too feckin right I am. Site Poll's up five more points wi'out a ball being kicked. That means somebody else must be voting aside from me and Aunt Fanny. He-he, I'd love to see Kylie's face now!" "You haven't heard news then?" "Wait a minute, if this is just you tryin' to make that vein in me for'ead throb again..." "Not this time, duck." "What news?" "Mandarin's bought Glasgow Rangers." "It's Man-Deric, woman. As in Dooley. Not Darin. You spend too much time watchin' daytime TV, that's your trouble. So... Rangers eh? Not surprised. Businessman, that one. Not afraid to make big decisions." "He's also sold Wednesdays to highest bidder." "You sure?" "Course I'm sure! It's been all ovver Radio Pig, nonstop." "Do we know oo?" "McCabe. He's been on too. Sayin' he's gonna merge clubs. Demolish Hillsbro' and build another hotel and shops and houses. Then redevelop Sty to be a sixty thousand all-seater. Then he's gonna call new club Sheffield United..." "That's hardly fair!" "...but instead of 'em bein' called Blunts, they'll be known as Blades." "Oh... Feck me! Were there no other bidders?" "Just one. A consortium of Wednesdayites... Led by Gary Megson." "Fecks sake! Well I'd call that a lucky escape! What's for tea?" **dedicated to the 60%, proud of ya! ***apologies for any offence or undue distress caused to whippet owners or folks who keep pigeons in their kitchen. I'm sure you all think GM did a brilliant job :0)

I didn't have the same concerns as you baldowl... but when I read "Scene one- steamy back kitchen" I was fairly concerned as well fearing that it would read differently!! I have to wonder though does the fact that you often agree with someones opinion mean that you will end up together in the end??? If so how do I explain the relationship I have with my wife! Mwahahahahaha In regards to the Poll... think it's joke! How many votes are related to the actual question posed and how many are related to the fact a 7 point gap to the blunts with two games extra played has been reduced to 2 points behind having played the same number?? Oh and Ourmaurice surely if MM has a rep for buying failing clubs he'll be able to buy United soon enough and turn it into a rugby leauge ground and side!!?? UTO
