Owls duo up for monthly awards

Wednesday may be going all-out for the big prize of promotion this weekend, but two Owls are up for npower League 1 monthly awards in April.

Boss Dave Jones is up for the Manager of the Month accolade, while defender Miguel Llera is going for the Player of the Month award after the Owls enjoyed a superb month. Securing 13 points from a possible 15 ensured Wednesday moved above bitter rivals Sheffield United into the automatic promotion spots going into this weekend's last match of the season.

It would be back-to-back monthly awards for Jones, who also scooped the March honour for his efforts of getting Wednesday back into the automatic promotion hunt.

He'll go up against Chris Powell, who guided Charlton Athletic to become champions last month, and MK Dons boss Karl Robinson.

For Llera, his defensive efforts have been complemented by a stunning four goals in five games - some of them key. As well as opening the scoring in the crucial victory at Huddersfield Town, the Spaniard scored the winner at Brentford on Saturday.

He'll go up against Bury's Mike Grella and Charlton's Leon Cort for the award.

The winners will be announced this Friday.
