Chesterfield set to sign Owls stopper

Chesterfield have signed out-of-contract Wednesday goalkeeper Richard O'Donnell, according to reports from BBC Radio Sheffield.

The Wednesday academy product was announced as one of six out-of-contract senior players who'd be allowed to leave Hillsborough this summer and the Spireites have seemingly acted quick to secure his services.

O'Donnell was also understood to be attracting the interest of npower League 2 neighbours Rotherham United after Owls boss Dave Jones deemed his services surplus to requirements.

The 23-year-old only got brief stints in the Wednesday first team and spent much of his time on loan spells away from S6 at clubs including Oldham Athletic, Grimsby Town and most recently Macclesfield Town.
