Owls target permanent Antonio deal

Wednesday boss Dave Jones has revealed he's trying to sign former loan star Michail Antonio on a permanent deal from Reading.

The 22-year-old wing wizard made a huge impression on Jones and Owls fans alike in helping Wednesday to automatic promotion from League One.

And Jones is looking to see if he can bring the player back to S6 this summer, telling BBC Radio Sheffield that the club is in discussions with the Royals over the player.

Reading's promotion to the Premier League may aid Wednesday's chances. Antonio featured for the Royals last season between loan stints with Colchester United and the Owls.

But their promotion to the top-flight is likely to see boss Brian McDermott further strengthen his squad, something which could see Antonio fall down the pecking order.

The winger made 14 appearances for the Owls towards the end of the season, scoring five goals along the way. Two of them were crucial - he netted a late, late winner in the 2-1 win over Carlisle United and also scored in Wednesday's promotion-clinching triumph against Wycombe Wanderers on the last day of the season.

Remember before we had MM? Doubt we could've gotten him on loan in the first place... even in the Championship. Everything seems to be coming up Wednesday!

Would signal our intentions for next season if we could get him permanently. With the new manager of Wolves not taking over until 1st Jul I doubt if we went in for Batth that anything would happen quickly.

One thing I haven't seen much about is whether we are balancing the books? It's all good an well looking for good (expensive) signings, and investing in our footballing infrastructure, but I'd prefer not to build up a huge debt in the process.......

Hope this goes through would be a good start in strengthening the team. Don't think we can get into huge debt seattle, i'm sure new fair play rules start in 2012/13 season so we will be ok if we get good ticket sales. UTO WTID

He won't play much for Reading in the Prem so it's just a matter of if we can afford him IMO

Sounds very much like he wants to join us so any sticking point will be on price.
