Owls close in on next new recruit

Wednesday are reportedly close to securing their next summer signing.

Owls boss Dave Jones had hoped to have his next new recruit signed, sealed and delivered to Wednesdayites by this afternoon.

But Owls fans may now have to wait until early next week to find out about the arrival, if a deal is completed as expected.

Crystal Palace defender Anthony Gardner and winger Gary Roberts, recently released by Huddersfield Town, have been the two names hotly linked with a move to Hillsborough next term.

Roberts had been linked with a move to Wednesday in January, with the Owls still pushing for promotion, but he's still understood to be a target this summer after failing to agree new terms on a deal with the Terriers.

Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Gardner had a good season with the Eagles last season but could be tempted with a move north if the terms of the contract at S6 suit him in the latter stages of his career.

It's not a certainty that either are the player in question who Jones hopes to tie up soon, with the Owls boss keeping his cards firmly close to his chest so far this summer, although both do have strong links.

Goalkeeper Chris Kirkland and full-back Kieran Lee have already agreed deals to become Owls next season.

For someone who is 32 I'm surprised that Gardner hasn't even played 250 league games.

think gardener has had a lot of injury problems

Stay away from both........

Not overly impressed with the Anthony Gardner link, he's a defensive equivalent of Francis Jeffers... Would take Roberts though.

not keen on Gardener would rather play Jones

Seems like Gardner guys according to Rob Statton on Twitter 20 mins or so ago? Experienced at this level so not all bad - as long as he keeps fit!
Owls That!
Keep the faith, I don't think dj would bother with him if he wasn't up for the job, we looked like our old selves at times this season with some defensive miss gaps so he's got the experiance to hopefully hold the defense together when required.
