Owls target Antonio in Royals chance

Wednesday target Michail Antonio will get his chance to impress Reading boss Brian McDermott ahead of the Royals' return to the Premier League.

The Owls are keen to sign their former loan star this summer but the Reading boss will run the rule over all of his players in pre-season before letting any of them leave.

The wing wizard is high on Owls boss Dave Jones's wish list after he shone during a loan spell last season, helping Wednesday to League One promotion.

And Antonio is expected to be further down the pecking order at the Madejski Stadium next season with McDermott set to bolster his squad with Premier League-quality players.

But he'll at least get a chance to try and win a place in McDermott's 25-man Premier League squad next season - meaning Wednesday will have to wait on any potential move for the midfielder.

Reading director of football Nick Hammond told getreading: 'It's been a long summer and we are very keen to get the squad back together and have a good look at where everyone is.'

The 22-year-old scored five goals in 14 appearances for Wednesday last season and also enjoyed a loan stint with Colchester United earlier in the campaign.

I'll be surprised if he's in Readings squad given the players they're signing, if they didn't think he was good enough or ready for the championship I can't see how that's changed now they're in the premiership.
