Pleased with Owls' signings so far?

Wednesday have already been busy in the transfer market this summer, and more new arrivals are expected to follow - are you pleased with the Owls' transfer dealings so far?

Players have left, players have penned new contracts to remain at Hillsborough, and a host of new faces have arrived since boss Dave Jones guided Wednesday to promotion to the Championship last season.

Chris Kirkland, Kieren Lee, Anthony Gardner, Joe Mattock and Chris Maguire have all signed deals to play in the famous blue and white stripes next season and the number of incoming additions are set to double before the start of the new campaign.

Amongst the names being linked with a move to Hillsborough are former loan stars Michail Antonio, Nile Ranger and Keith Treacy, with Wednesday expected to make the trio a priority.

Stephen Bywater, Mark Beevers and Jermaine Johnson have also agreed to remain at S6 by signing new deals.

Jon Otsemobor, Clinton Morrison, Richard O'Donnell and Chris Sedgwick were amongst the players not to have their contracts renewed.

So what do you think of the Owls' business in building their squad for the Championship? Good, bad? Content?

I'm just a fascinated observer so far who'll reserve judgement until a week before the big kick off. Players like Lee, Maguire & Mattock are the right age and sound like good prospects, same goes for some of the other names currently being bandied about. Kirkland & Gardner will be valuable additions so long as they're able to stay fit. It's the players we haven't signed yet; Antonio, Batth & Treacy, that could decide how well we've done during the summer, plus the players who'll eventually get shipped out. Still, looking good.

quality over quantity. as Our Maurice has said, the players yet to be signed will probably seal our champ fate. We were always going to have to wait for the real quality players like Antonio unless we want to pay through the nose for them. That's not MM's style, he likes a bargain, and I'd rather the club be a little more thoughtful about signings than previous regimes to prevent a financial slide again UTO
Casowl
Agree 100% Casowl. Financial stability is the most important aspect. I hope that MM is not spending beyond our means. We've gambled on the big league before and look what happened. Still, I'm up-beat about this season and looking forward to seeing a bit more quality on the pitch.

Wise to hold judgement, OurMaurice. I've made my judgements too soon, too many times. Looks good to me, so far, but yes, we need to nail down our attack. Yes, Casowl, spending beyond our means is the last thing we need. We've got a club with a great atmosphere right now, and hopefully that'll attract the right players. At any rate, I trust MM, and I surely trust DJ. It's great to be an Owl!

Word from Derby fans is that Macguire has potential but can be a little cocky. I like this. It's about time we had a couple of likely lads upfront. Really hope him and Madine hit it off. For too long have we had strikers that lack confidence. I wouldn't be upset if we didn't sign another striker. It's wingers that are most important now. If COG and Lowe stay I think they are worth a punt and it's good for morale to have players that won't mind warming the bench but will be desperate to play!

Another player signed today (Amado) and if MM's as good as his word then there could be another six in before the big kick off. I think the trick will be integrating these newcomers into a squad that deserves a lot of credit for their achievements last season without harming the team spirit that helped get them over the line.
OurMaurice
That wasn't meant to sound negative, by the way. I'd expect the majority of our existing squad are chomping at the bit and determined to prove themselves at a higher level. I'd like to see them given the chance, I also think they've earned the right, but that was then. This is the Dave Jones Show now, folks!

End of another quiet week... Only the one new signing but a 22year-old with six U21 caps for Portugal, can't be as bad as his hair cut. We've taken another trialist on though, Nejc Pecnik 26 and sixteen full caps for Slovenia. He'll be trying to impress along with Harewood (Koumas will join 'em when he finally gets his ass into gear). Apart from that it's all speculation. Reports say we're closer to signing Antonio and MM is quoted as saying he's 'optimistic' (when have we heard him say that before? Oh yes, last January re: another fans' favourite that got away) but now we're hearing he turned out for Reading yesterday scored a goal and made a couple more, hmm. Don't suppose anyone else noticed? Another target, Treacy, is allegedly being lined up by Barnsley. We have about four weeks before the start of the season and I'd hate to see a repeat of last year when our 'reluctance' to pay the going rate meant we missed out on the players we wanted, had to use the loan market to secure the players we needed and then had to play catch up till around November. Then saw the same thing happen again during January. Come on, MM. Sign those cheques and bring in the players we need NOW. I'm sure DJ would thank you for it and it'll give us fans belief that this year we're gonna hit the ground running.
