Owls confirm one-year Johnson deal

Wednesday winger Jermaine Johnson has penned a new one-year deal to stay at Hillsborough.

The Jamaican's old contract came to an end this summer but JJ agreed to an extended stay at S6 and has now signed the new 12-month deal.

Johnson told the official SWFC website: 'I'm delighted to be staying with Sheffield Wednesday and I want to help the club do well in the Championship.

'There is no limit to where we could go and I want to part of it.

'The last game of last season was the highlight of my whole career. I was choked on the day because to see so many people so happy meant a lot to me.

'Now I want to be successful in the Championship and I know we can achieve good things here.'

Johnson follows goalkeeper Stephen Bywater and defender Mark Beevers in agreeing new deals to stay at the club.

I know he divides opinion, but I think this makes perfect sense. Given his age (and everything else) we'd never hope to receive a fee even if he was tied to a contract, I doubt he'll get too many starts anyway and if we'd released him DJ would probably have needed to bring in a replacement. There's no comfort zone with a one year deal, so the incentive is there. If he comes off the bench he'll need to make an impression and that way he might well earn himself an extension.

I'm glad to see the longest serving member of the team stay for another year. He's played under 4 managers in 5 years here and I wish him luck for next season.

This used to be a good site, with great info and up to date news, however we've completed a couple of major signings this week, amado and now pecnik and there's no update, I understand people maybe away or have other things to do but the updates have gone really downhill especially when we're having such a fruitful beginning to our new season in the championship.
