Barton to Owls rumours gather pace

Rumours linking Wednesday with a loan move for QPR midfielder Joey Barton are gaining momentum.

Reports linking the Owls with the former Manchester City and Newcastle United man first surfaced last week and are now gathering pace.

Wednesday boss Dave Jones has been questioned over the links and although refusing to confirm any approach to the Loftus Road club, he said Barton's reputation wouldn't put him off bringing him to Hillsborough.

He said: 'I wouldn't be frightened of bringing him here if he became available.'

QPR are understood to be keen to loan the 29-year-old out next season, with Nottingham Forest and Blackburn Rovers also reported to be keen on his services.

Any club taking on the midfielder would have to be patient - Barton will miss the first 12 games of next season through a suspension following his involvement in the end-of-season fracas at Manchester City.

Forest have new Owners with more money than sense trying to bring in big names to make an instant impact - look at the manager situation. they are crying out for barton.

Would be devastated if he came to s6. I loathe the man.
Carbone's Padawan
I'm not in favour of big name signings, especially one like this. He would be disruptive on so many levels.

QPR are only loaning him out so he will completes his 12 match ban quicker. He wont play a game for whoever he signs for and concidering he a totall**** i would want him within 100 miles of our club, unless it was bumhole lane.

Agree with Carbone,I detest the bloke with a passion. Would be devastated if he was to wear our shirt. Please stay hundreds of miles away from us.

I agree with MO. I reckon this a nonsense story being blown out of proportion to fill the news until the new season starts. Having a banned Barton gives us no benefit at all on any level. I'm more concerned about this Kirkland story and if there is any truth in it. If true then Bywaters been pretty steady and Kirkland loses all respect from me.

Why would anyone take a player on loan who'll miss at least a quarter of the season, then they'll be further bans. Barton should be out of footbaall
Tiny T
why would Kirkland lose your respect? if the story is true and his wife is seriously ill I can certainly understand his motives for turning down our contract
Hirsty's Shinpads
I'm amazed the club and/ or Kirkland's agent have allowed these rumours to persist. We've heard about contracts being torn up, serious illness in the player's family, problems commuting daily, there's no wonder opinion is split. An official statement could set the matter straight, so why the delay?
OurMaurice
Again Mo is spot on. I had only heard that Kirkland didn't enjoy travelling from his home every day and I thought that was a weak reason for changing his mind. I knew nothing about his wife being ill and if that's true then that changes my opinion. Back to my point about all these rumours.

Back to topic, how on earth has this story grabbed so much media attention? Seems like DJ was asked a question for radio and his answer appears in every publication going. It's crazy and so is the notion that we'd take Barton on a six month loan. Even QPR's reasons for considering such a move defies logic. He'd serve his ban quicker in the Championship? But he's out on loan till January, isn't he? Or will they recall him the moment his loan is completed which means he won't actually turn out in the Championship at all! So the loan is QPR's version of punishment then, like being made to stand it the corner and think about what he's done. The truth is, they can't sack him because it'd cost too much. They can't hope to sell him until he's served his ban. He's their dilemma, no-one else's. All DJ did was answer a question, next time he might say 'No comment', except that'd read "Jones vows: wouldn't touch Barton with barge pole" and then he'd probably get blamed for making an already delicate situation worse. But think of the publicity...

That should read... in a corner. ...made to stand IN a corner... (:tut!:) How is it I only notice these typos AFTER I've punched 'Submit'? Duh!
OurMaurice
(:groan!:) Should read... moment his BAN is completed...! Must be all the excitement of beating Stocksbridge 4-0. How come we didn't line up a game vs. Alfreton? Team talk: 'Come on, lads. The first leg was a total nightmare, you've got ninety minutes to put it right!'
